Is it worth it?

Hello guys! I just have a simple question, it this game worth any time investment? Or is it necessary to pay in order to enjoy it?

Oh, I have not paid a thing for this game, It's a good game, cross between mass effect (ground based) and X2/3 Series for space, (except only one ship)

I love how the in game store (zen currency) can be bought with in game currency (the money you earn via missions) so really, with enough time you can buy anything.

I am enjoying it and it is not a pay to win game, Paying just speeds things up.

It makes it alot more fun (in my opinion) to pay for it but you can go all the way to get to Vice Admiral and enjoy it a lot. Quite a bit of the stuff you can buy are things that just look cool such as bridge skins or borg crew members also the NX tag (as oppose to NCC). But other things you can buy include ships and dilithium and excahnge stuff.

This game is worth it for sure. Of all the free to play models you see in MMOs these days, Star Trek Online might just have the best one. You never have to buy anything in STO. The Zen points you can get to buy perks & fancy stuff can actually be brought with in-game currency as oppose to real cash. It'll take more time than if you were to just buy it outright with real cash, but can be done. With the improvements made to this game over the past 3 years, STO is still very fun to play.

can you play as romulins?

belive that romulans will be added in next season (add-on) in a year or so, but nothing stops u from making a custom romulan using the alien species in the character editor, game is totally worth it btw, just takes some extra time to get dilithium (used to buy zen)

Like in any other F2P mmo you have some limitations.I've played F2P and reached max level with no problem.You don't have access to much space in inventory or have alot of money.I think max is 20 mil or so.I say is enough.You can get pretty nice ships as F2P.Anyway is a fun game as long as you don't do ground missions.The movement sucks but overall is a nice relaxing game.
