Sorry for asking this but I don't know what to do?
So first off I am really excited about playing this game, I installed steam and went to download. The first time I downloaded it says that it could not find a file so I said ignore twice(not the smartest I know) so it finished installing and I created my account and when I went to login it preceded to start patching. It got to 40% or something like that and then it just stopped or froze but it didn't give me a crash error or an unable to download error, it just stopped. So I uninstalled it and re installed it and it still does the same thing. I looked on google but did not find anything that matched my particular situation. Is there somewhere that I can find a manual patch to download and install it myself. Any help anyone could give me would be great. Thanks.

Try the Verify Cache option. Right click on Star Trek Online in the Steam library ---> Local files ----> Verify integrity of game. That one will take some time. Then when the verification is ready and successful, start the game, wait as it will patch itself again and play. This should work.

Yup try steam verify than on the game launcher you can try force verify there as well as the on-demand patching i think its called it lets you patch as you play but might invite d/c's more often. also they have a safe mode launch option for an all else fails thing.
