Does Deep Space Nine pick up?
I've recently finished up Next Gen for second time and started watching season 1 of Deep Space Nine on Netflix cause why the hell not i've never experienced it. I'm not a fan of most of the characters so far and I think Captain Sisko is a bit strange compared to the captains i'm use to (Kirk & Picard) i'm honestly only about 4 episodes in. I'd really like to know if it picks up. I constantly hear praise for the series.

I've only seen DS9 3 times and am currently going through it again. Yes, it does pick up. Not only does the episodes, character developement and twists get better. The story arc gets deeper down the rabbit hole too so to be speak. Do make sure you watch every episode because those also give minior details to major events in the show. Even plain an simple Garek

I agree Siskco is a little off putting, and much later in the series there is some aspect that wanted me to throw-up (lets get say not to sciency stuff), I does get better, I did enjoy it... Thank you Netflix! I've rewatched all 5 series back to back. I miss the show so much. I'm supporting the Enterprise Season 5 on netflix campaign but i know that'll never happen. :-(

DS9 starts off kinda meh, but it gets great. It rivals TNG as the best serires IMHO.

I don't like Sisko, but Kira Nerys is my favourite. :)

With that said, DS9 has some awful episodes, but also some of the very, very best. As long as you manage to suffer through the bad, there's plenty good there as well.

IMO DS9 starts picking up once the Dominion war starts.

It's where it starts to rival TNG as the best Start Trek. Lots more issues are examined and loads more space battles.

DS9 is the most soap opra like among all the shows. However, yes it does pick up in places.

I'm halfway through my 3rd season and I must thank you guys for encouraging me to bare through the first few episodes. This is easily my favorite Star Trek series. Odo & Quark are absolutely fantastic characters.

While I think the early seasons weren't great (except for some good episodes like "Duet"), things get much more interesting by the end of the second season. To be more precise: things get interesting with the episode "The Jem'Hadar".

An easy way to tell when DS9 starts getting better is when Sisko goes for the shaved look.
