Question about STO.
I have been a fan of Star Trek my whole life and I have been curious about this game for some time. But I REALLY hate MMOs as I am completely uninterested with the idea of playing with others. Is it possible to play and enjoy this game solo or will I be forced to play with others? i.e forced to team up to succeed?

Playing the game solo has its high and low points. You can play in a fleet like mine and be a solo player. This game does have more benefits in fleets or team play though. Choice is yours.

Hey there, there is a solo campaign for each of the three species. Federation is probably the weakest because it came out first and Romulan's the strongest cause it came out yesterday (for example the Romulan campaign is the only single player mode to feature alot of voice acting from the NPC's). Other than the campaigns there is TONS of content to enjoy by yourself (foundry missions are player created story missions that in my opinion tend to be MUCH better than the official levels, I guess cause they are crafted with such passion by fans). Frankly the only time you are forced around other people is when you're travelling from mission to mission in space and that's only cause you see them passing by doing their own thing. Unlike some other MMO's I've never had a mission that required me to team up with other players to succeed and Fleets (guilds) are 100% optional. I love playing the PvE battles, joining up with a bunh of players to battle the Borg or whatever, because you see a million phasers and torpedoes and explosions going off, but again totally optional. Get this game, it's free to play!

Thanks for the replies. Its not that im anti-social, I just don't like feeling obligated to help others or be kicked from the guild. I'll look into this game.

i don't kick members from the guild if they do not want to be social. If you like to play solo and be in a fleet mine is the place to be . I have lots of fleet members that play on their own and still donate to the fleet holdings to earn fleet credits to by the ultra rare fleet gear for their character. Gaming should not be an obligation but for fun like it is intended for.

No absolutely, that's why I have so little experience with MMOs. I just want to chill and go through it at my own pace. But with STO there's just so damn much content you can really do whatever the hell you want to. I liked being in fleets cause it gives you access to better equipment and ships when you hit the really high character levels and even gives you special "powers" in single player levels, but I never bothered with any of the social aspects of them. Also there's certain projects that fleets do to improve their starbases that are just donating your garbage to them, and it was nice to have something to do with that crap that was just sitting in my inventory.

This isn't really an MMO. Like other Cryptic games it's all instanced based and can be soloed. You just all happen to be sharing the same server.

There is a massive difference between this type of game and something like Eve, SWTOR, wow, etc. where you will eventually run in to a wall (usually at end-game) unless you group up.

For some reason people like to play solo, i myself prefer multiplayer, and i never understood why people are anti-social on the internet. Probably because time of playing multiplayer games almost exclusively has proven to be a better experience then playing solo for me.

I can never get people to play with me, i'm like "hey were both the same level and on the same quest, wanna team up?" and people always reply in a "Screw off you Wanker im too pwnz for teams." kinda way.

Team play makes strain the nerves to not lose face, poor team player becomes a laughing stock, team game is not for cowards, but for people with strong nerves?

For some reason when i get a team of newbs and trolls, i tend to try to be the commander sort of (Because you know, newbs don't know wtf they are doing) and it works out a little better. And even if i am playing this game for example and i accidentally get into a very high ranked battle with my low ranked character, i tend to put ALL my power into defense and act as some sort of decoy, directing the fire off of the people that can do things to me with my Z-store carrier, and i tend to do things like intentionally ram the enemy, direct power off of my defense in their face, causing them to kill me and then take quite a bit of damage, that sort of thing, and i tend to almost NEVER leave someone for dead, even if i am playing world of tanks and it means me losing my tank, and sometimes i get a tiny bit of reputation.

Interestingly 90% of the time i don't get those kinds of people, maybe im just psychic and know who to ask or maybe i am just playing my usual card of +5000 luckiness during certain times(Don't ask me how that happens, it just does...) And biogen, WTF are you even saying???
