How many people paid real money for this free game?
I am just curious if i am the only one that purchased this game in a box in a store for like 35-40 bucks. I brought it home after and it was not long before i logged into steam and lo and behold, the game i purchased is available for FREE download to everyone. I didnt get anything special or a vip account for my purchase just te same basic free edition as is available to anyone. I will add that while i enjoyed noseing into this gamebut i really lost insterest when i found out how much more i paid for the same free game.

eh, at the very least you should have fully expanded inventory/ship/bridge officer slots and will get respec tokens and such for your first month.

'Free' players have to buy all those extra inventory and bank spaces seperately. The only thing you don't keep after your first free month with be the energy credit cap increase - you'll be limited to 10 million energy credits like free players instead of.. like.. 20 billion or something.

It's a lot cheaper to pay for a single month's subscription/box copy than to buy all of those for every character you create, that much I assure you(we're talking hundreds of dollars).

no i never got any of those things. i got nothing. i have even talked to the star trek people and asked about getting something in compensation but they didnt do anything except close the ticket.

edit how do i check/know for sure if i have the expanded inventory, slots and what are respec tokens cuz im sure i dont have any of those. im not really interested in paying to play anygame. especially when i pay to buy the software.

The game went free to play about 12 months ago. I bought it right before it was free to play for $15.

I lost interest in the game just because there's no PvP of interest, and the game feels like a grind, despite the design team's best effort to reinvent it.

Oddly enough, it seems that dispite that PvP is unloved, most of the nurfs came from PvP complaints.

I have a gold account, but its not worth it unless you need the extra storage etc in my opinion.

i feel slightly gipped and i have no interest in playing. the game is a helluva grind unless u spend real money. it was designed that way. Overall i call the game a waste of the 35$ i spent on it. i dont see any support forthcomng for players like myself who wasted money buying the EXACT SAME features avaiable to anyone for FREE !.

2 cents; I played for free for a while then put about $50 into it to get what's needed to enjoy it, and glad I did, it's great fun and after over 250 hrs it's only a grind when you play it that way - I figure I'm not yet halfway through all the playable non-fleet stuff. Don't give up.

The problem is without PvP the game is just PvE raids with only a little variation between them.
The Star Trek story-telling is pretty weak even for the beloved Federation side. The best content by far is the user-generated story-based adventures.

I'd probably come back if the space-ship mechanisms were a bit more detailed, and if the land-combat was remotely interesting. I think they'd do best to devise a faction warfare system like that of World of Tanks or other MMOs based on large team vs team combat. The new Fleet/Starbase system is just one more grind.

Not saying the game is a failure as a MMO---it's actually much better than 90% of MMOs. It just fails to be interesting more than a few months.

Be thankful that you didn't preorder it from Gamestop like I did when it first came out. Waste of 60 bucks.

yeah well anything more than 0 is a rip off yes. i refuse to spend money on a game that treats its "paid" customers like this. its not worth it. and the ground combat sucks fo sure. the story line is ok but theres too many side crap quests that just suck. i tried to get into and i was enjoying it up until i found out it was ftp software that i paid money for.
TheRealJonah Mar 19, 2013 @ 5:54pm
i still say they should offer everyone who paid for the software client some in game free stuff to compensate the price paid. i got mine a couple months before it went ftp and i am pretty sure i paid somewhere between 30-40 bucks for it. why would i want to spend more money "to enjoy the game"? no offense intended to anyone who did. in fact i paid XX dollars to enjoy the game in the first place and what a waswte that was. the game is designed for people to spend "more" money to "enjoy" it. id say its working as they intended. hell thats exactly what they told me when i asked about compensation for having paid.

I didnt buy it on any pre-order or pre release , i was disapointed with the early controls on ground missions and didnt play it for a year or so and came back later and now think its greatly improved...
However i did buy a monthly subscription later which gave me some benefits later , then i bought the lifetime deal when that was released... And now it couldnt get better , dont get me wrong i do play other games but i found the space battles almost unparalleled thats why i enjoy it so much..
And the P v P does need too be improved but if u dont enjoy what P v P there is currently You can always set up ur own matches obviously again easier if ur in a fleet.
Also its at least 10 x better when ur in a good fleet the benefits are unsurpassed ...
And i disagree paradoxdoc it is not designed too need more n more money too enjoy it , as i said before the difference playing solo and in a fleet is what makes the difference...
At least u can get the things u need from your fleet if u cant get them yourselves....
Good luck anyway.. and Have fun too :D.

oh i agree. the space flight exploration and stuff plays right into my incredible imagination. the ground combat still sucks. i avoid ground missions. Also there is only one space ship i want. the starship voyager. but ♥♥♥♥ it takes waaay too long to do anything in tat game. prolly take years of playing without paying to get decent gear and the ship i want. not really worth the grind required. i might pick up hots. but im not a fan of blizzard.

You.. can easily hit 50 in a week without spending a dime if you wanted to. The fastest ways of leveling are to visit each planet in a sector and do their patrols, or the Mirror Universe hourly event. By the time you visit each planet in a sector, you'll generally be leveled enough for the next area.

When you're leveling up through the 40's, the Intrepid is a very respectable ship. Unfortunately, it's upgraded/max level versions are a bit of a letdown as they're super-specialized into science(which betrays the flexibility demonstrated in the Voyager series, IMO).
