You've got a corrupted client, or there is a problem on the server side. Did you try to restart the computer?

yes

Are you running programs like various torrent clients, or the rpogram teamviewer in the background? What is the state of your antivirus/firewall. Try disabling as much as possible of background programs running (ref: the various taskbar icons)

I've been having the same problem for the last week, I've tried reinstall, disabling the firewalls, only option left is to reinstall the PC, I'd rather not.

---> You can try flushing your DNS to help with connection issues.

1) Press the Windows Key + R

Should bring up Run window.

2) Type in cmd and press Enter

A black command prompt window should appear.

3) Type in ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

If that does not work, try downloading this.

http://files.startrekonline.com/launcher/Star%20Trek%20Online.exe
Go to your game folder, and replace the Star Trek Online file with this new one.
=========================================================
For some other issues that are cropping up, here is another fix.
=========================================================
In your steam client, Right click on Star Trek online. > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files
==
Now Right click on your 'Star Trek Online' Application
Properties > Compatibility > Check the box; Run this program in compatibility mode for:
Windows XP (Service Pack 3)

If that still does not work, Temporarily disable your anti-virus, & firewall. And then try launching again.
=========================================================
And. for Direct X issues, if your having issues with crashes, and graphics.. In the game options switch from DX11 to DX9.

yatta yatta...

Power cycle your Computer, and network hardware. And give it a couple minutes.

In your game properties, Under compatibility, check the box run as admin.

you may have to be on a Windows Admin account, or have Run as Admin access to be able to download, install, update, and run the game. If on Windows Vista or 7/8, you may have to change the level of your UAC settings or turn them off temporarily.

You may need to update or install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. You may need to update your version of Windows, also may need to update to the latest version of DirectX and Internet Explorer with Javascript enabled. You may also need to check or change your network settings. In addition, you should check that your CPU, mainboard, and CPU drivers are updated if applicable.

It's not just STO that's buggy with the latest Patch. Java has also become unstable now.

If all else fails time to start patching stuff.

Download and install this, this, and this. as a start. see if that fixes it.

If this does not work,
In Steam, Right click on the game; Properties> Local Files> Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

Try disabling you'r anti-virus/firewall. after you tried everything else.

Try uninstalling Internet Explorer's latest version (you can reinstall it later).
