Did you all wait a few minutes? Mine was same, after a while it started normally. This seems to be an effect from the latest update...

I have the same issue with the game freezing at the Legacy of Romulus screen. I waited for half an hour for it to load but it never did. I tried waiting 2 other times with no luck.

This usually happens on initial runs, and can happen again after the devs push a new patch. STO, by default, uses a dynamic patching system to spread out the download- a lot of things in a typical patch aren't seen very often, so why update media that you aren't going to see for a long time? It fetches the critical portion with the launcher, but the bulk of media files, even commonly used ones, aren't touched until you're at the Legacy of Romulus loading screen. The problem is that whenever it finds bits of the game to update, it appears to stop responding while it downloads the patches. I suspect this is what a lot of you are encountering.

You can force the game to patch everything at once, from the launcher, which should make the Legacy of Romulus loading & patch transition fly by in about 30 seconds afterward. Set aside time for this, as it can easily be over three gigabytes of files to download. Before you log in, click on "Options" from the upper menu bar. Select "Force verify" to make the launcher check your game files (because if you stopped the game while it was patching a file's probably broken), and unselect "On-demand patching" . Save the changes and log in normally. The launcher will update every file to their most recent versions, but instead of the uninformative LoR loading screen, the launcher has a progress bar so you can see it working. It can also sit happily in the background while you do something else, because as I mentioned, it's a big download. I hope this helps!
