Science viable in carriers?
Would a science char be able to solo content in a carrier?
That means, survive long enough and have the dps to actually kill stuff.
atm i am only 21 (commander) and still learning the ropes. Playing a plasma shield tanker, and must say i really enjoy that. takes a while to kill stuff, but doing it slow and steady :)

For fed the Atrox is a good Sci Carrier. on KDF I forget the name, but there is a Gorn carrier.

scientists have a lot of interesting weapons and tools! i actually play tactic (L 50), but i think a scientist can do similar damage on his own way!

I played EVE many years ago and i really liked my Dominix, which was a Drone carrier battleship. As i understand Carriers, they can debuff, dps and heal? If they can only do first 2, i guess i got time to heal and throw in a few potshots aswell during team play?

A carrier is science heavy, so in theory you can anything a science vessel could, except you got a ton more HP and pets. Downside is that you are also way bigger and slower.

Feds have the Atrox (its C-Store though), wheres as the KDF has the Vo'Quv (which is not a Gorn ship btw).
If you look at the C-Store, the Feds got an escort carrier (Armitage) in addition to the Atrox. KDF has a number of flight deck cruisers and an assault carrier (Kar'fi).

Romulans have no full carrier vessel yet, but they do have the Arkif escort warbird and the Scimitar, which each have a hangar.

There's also the carrier you get from the first season 8 mission.

Yes, carriers are slow, and turn slow. This makes it slightly harder to put a Grav Well exactly where you want it to go.

Yes, you can Science it up with a carrier (I have the Atrox on Fed side & the Vo'quv for KDF). I liked the Vo'quv so much, I had to buy the Atrox for my Fed Sci.

Fed side, I prefer the Atrox for Science... the regular sci ships don't do enough of everything else for me, aside from Sci abilities. KDF side, I prefer BoPs because of the turn rate & the universal slotting (B'rel Sci/Torpedo Boat).

PVE-content-wise, a carrier shouldn't be at a disadvantage. I remember KDF people used to say about the Vo'quv that they were always welcome because if there was one on your side, "You knew you had a chance to win".

So, great ships? Not necessarily as Science boats, but very good & not to be overlooked.

You won't be really 'soloing' any end-game content in a carrier, but that can largely be said of any ship unless you happen to be putting out 40k+ DPS.

Lots of the issues with Sci powers on slow moving/slow turning vessels were diminished when Legacy of Romulus was released. Most Sci powers that matter, such as Gravity Well, Tyken's Rift, Tachyon Beam, etc have at least 180 degree targetting arcs. It makes using these abilities much more forgiving on larger vessels.

Sci Carriers are fantastic though. You've got the bonus to Aux power which makes your carrier pets deploy faster, plenty of crowd control options, and typically great damage options for broadsiding with Beam Fire at Will.

It depends on the ship and the faction. Carriers can hold their own just fine, but they require a bit more multitasking than other ships. They also come with their own strengths and weaknesses that make them better or worse against some opponents than others.

The Voth, for example, are absolutely brutal against sluggish ships and fighter craft, so they will tear you up in engagements. Conversely, Carriers are quite good at dealing with the Borg who are quite sluggish themselves and are easily intercepted/overwhelmed.

Personally, I prefer actual science ships/half-carriers for science-y/support roles, but Federation and KDF both have ready access to carriers with considerable science capacity.

Judging by your description, it sounds like you might be interested in Flight Deck Cruisers. They're very resilient ships with a fighter bay, but only the KDF has easy access to them(Any faction can get the Voth Bastion, but it is a lockbox ship and very rare/expensive as a result). The Vesta(very flexible science ship with a hangar) can actually run a remarkably powerful shield-tank if you're a Federation character, but you really have to be on your toes to keep its glass hull safe.
