Banned for posting my fleets web address.
Last night i was sending a private message in game with a friend and i sent him the web address for our fleet (guild) drevsto.weebly.com so he could go check it out. Without warning i was forcefully disconnected and permanently banned from Perfect World Entertainment. I had to submit a support ticket before i was even notified of why I was banned. PWE had assumed that the web address was a link to an "adspam/gold seller" company. There are no such websites with an address even remotely similar to my fleets website.

After explaining the innocence of the private message PWE responded by asking me to sign a statement which would admit a breach of the Terms of Service and accept any future decision regarding my account before they would remove the ban.

Ive been furious and have been searching for a way to contact someone at PWE to explain my situation. Unfortunately i dont see any way to contact the company other than by submitting a support ticket through their website.

My advice to you all is,

DO NOT LINK ANY WEBSITES IN CHAT!!!

Thanks

They didn't ban you on the fly, the person you were chatting had to have reported you for them to have looked and develop the misunderstanding. Usually they review the larger context of conversations if any to make a better judgement.. So that does raise more questions.

I got linked about a dozen links to a STO Wikia yesterday. I asked someone "can you tell me more about fleet stuff, like items? " and he spent a while sending me link... after link... after link. He sent me /Fleet, /Fleet_Modules, /Dilithium, /STF... Etc. It got annoying, but I didn't report him, and nothing bad happened. I know because he kept harassing some guy who was trying to recruit people into a new fleet.

So there is more to your story, like your 'friend' wasn't a real friend and ratted you out.
Altruiss 2014 年 8 月 21 日 下午 2:57
Absolutely not. My friend is actually a personal friend that i have known in person for over 10 years and speak with using teamspeak on a nightly basis. He actually wrote our fleet about the situation and also wrote a game review speaking about the instance.

An administrator for my fleet has been dealing with the exact same issue in fact.

Also they DID ban me on the fly. The instant-ban was so instantaneous that my friend wouldnt have even had any time to rat me out!

Says you are in game STO now...?
Altruiss 2014 年 8 月 21 日 下午 4:30
Yep, just got reinstatted a couple hours ago! After they asked me to sign a statement saying i wont link to illicit websites anymore. I signed the statement but cut out the parts that implicated any wrong doing on my part.

Well I'm glad you got your account back.

This should stay as note for ALL mmo games: Do NOT post links in game. Post them on Steam (epsecially if the game is ran through steam... come on).

Youtube has innapropriate stuff... so that is a really, really bad example. Not 'virus' stuff.... sexual/religious/drugs etc.

Ive never ever known an STO GM to act without provocation of some sort. They do not randomly scan chats for malicious content. They have to have their attention drawn to the content and make judgement on it after investigation. I can not concieve of a way that works otherwise, without some interaction of a 3rd party or personal malice of the GM involved.

+1

Also consider the fact that (I'm sure) GM's float around (invis) and monitor people, randomly. This would apply to chats.

All i can say is as soon as I had hit the enter button i was "forcefully disconnected" and banned. It had to be software because no human being could have reacted so fast. I am very happy that they re-established my account though, as had just bought a fleet mogh 2 days earlier using my steam wallet. I wonder if steam can reverse a purchase that was purchased using steam wallet. I wouldnt do that now, but it would be nice to know!

This is a copy and paste from my support ticket. Its the response from the GM's when i asked why i was banned.

----
Hello,

As the ban was a violation of the Terms of Service, a permanent ban was put in place. Linking to adspam/gold seller sites is highly not advisable and may result in compromising your's and your friends' account.

Here are the details of your ban:

Account Name: ******
Character Name: Ashen
Display Name: altruiss
Last message before ban: i think so, sto.weebly.com
*** (do not click/open this link -- this was provided only for your reference) ***
----

As you can see i accidentally typed "sto.weebly.com" instead of "drevsto.weebly.com", however one is my fleets website and the other in a non-existent web address. Also if you google both addresses neither comes up with anything illicit. Obviously perfect world never bothered to research the content of the address before banning me.

They can, but you will lose your Steam account and all your games. This is their way of 'refunding' you. I know because a game, Sword of the Stars 2, had a huge amount of outrage, because they were forced to release a game that was horribly broken (not playable in any sense, as it would crash easily 10 minutes in... if you were lucky to get so far) People demanded their money back, and so the developers and moderators let people know what is what.
Essentially Steam would not 'give' you your money back. What you do is force your bank to invalidate those charges. While probably not illegal it's a form of frued and so they have no choice but to pay back the money to the bank, and in return they will happily banish you from the Steam dungeons of hell :P

Wow, thats not good. I also bought Sword of the Stars 2 when it came out, being a big fan of the first game. That game was a total disaster! Never did try to refund that one but i was too frustrated to even try!

SotS2 is a wonderful game now. Got 100+ hours in it (maybe 200 at this point) I watched it go from utter junk to wonderful. It still has a few problems, but nothing really big. Mainly that if you play for like 4 hour sstraight it will crash, but it auto saves every three turns. You can just re-load and keep going. Happens 1/10 games for me.
