New Update, Let's wreck it a little more
Sooo instead of fixing and expanding the existing crafting systems, they scrap it completely. Create something completely different with no bonus for those who had maxed crafting already. If I ever find an STO development operative at a convention I'm going to dress them down till they run away, or find a cop.

I approve of the wishes of the original poster.

well for maxing the old system we did get something. Sure not anything great but they gave us that Ferengi Duty Officer. I'm not happy about it either with the being time gated so that you can no longer just sit there and craft all your gear on the spot to use equip right away when you reach level 40 aand are getting all your Mk X gear. Now that will probably take most players 2 or 3 days at least to get all their gear crafted if they kept the crafting up to par on all trees as they leveled. If not you are looking at either weeks of grinding to get to the point of crafting decent gear or spending "millions" of Dilithium to get to the crafting level required to make decent gear of the right Mk level. (17000+ Dilithium to complete a 20 hr project instantly)

They did essentially ruin what could have been a good crafting system by putting in the Timegate/Dilithium sink into it.The old crafting system was pretty much wothless as of level 40 with the Dilithium costs and under par gear for entry level endgame content. Now the timegate and Dilithium sink factors are the problems while the gear is up to par for Endgame content (Not just entry level but mid range)

There was plenty to fix and make relevant in the old system. However the decisions and direction being taken is all an over reaching design philosophy, and this is just the most recent casualty. Excpt for the Story Episodes and STFs this is no longer the game I started playing at all. I have to wonder on that basis if it would be possible to sue cryptic or perfect world for our life time subs back as a class action. Because if its nothing like what I started with, if every sub system have been drastically changed for the relative worse... there has got to be a case in there some where.

i agree OP im not to happy with all the time effort and resorces spent in the old crafting system. And not so much as even 1% of XP given towards the new system for the ones that had that odd system maxed out already. And on top of that they give us a box with a bunch of white doffs. they expect me to dissmiss green and blue doffs to make room for white ones F U perfect world thats not going to happen . And op if your wish comes true flip them the bird from/for me will you? IMHO they only did this so they could sell something else to us in the z store.

Oh and AbsynthMinded that suit is borderlineish but What your thinking of is when you go to buy something say online and when you recieve it , it is nothing like what was offered. But you did recieve what was offered at the time . Its just they have changed it over time i dont think the law has made it into that area yet.

The crafting is gone? I didn't know that. I thought they just added the R&D on top of it. Wow...

Pretty sure the OP is talking about how it was removed a long time ago and more recently put back in with a totally different system.

@OP- It's a waste but if you crafted the Aegis Set they re-buffed it (because they had nerfed it for the STF/Reputation stuff to be better). I'm not a big fan of that drastic of a change. But the crafting system wasn't as important as a game like, say, WoW, where there were many fields of crafting that you could go into (and be very serious about).

They should have done what WoW did and have branches of crafting. I would do crafting if I could choose exactly what I crafted. Maybe I only craft engines, and that's it. I'd be fine with that. But there isn't a "Engine Crafter" and becoming great at it... doesn't mean much. If it meant that I had an ability to make money (or dil) or be able to get things from that (like a free playing trading something they created for a pay only object) But sadly that's not how STO is, and it makes it a lot less expansive (and less fun in that way)

To me crafting is sort of like Exploration. Exploration is a untapped system, with great potential. Exploration itself is a founding idea of Star Trek. The patrol missions help, but exploring isn't very fun. It's also very fast at level 50 to travel around the galaxy, making a fast warp-speed ship almost pointless, as everyone is going "pretty fast"

Exploration was scrapped 2 updates ago. Crafting as it was, could have been expanded to a fully envisioned, complex and satisfying system. I don't hate the new system completely except for the fact I as a founder have to Grind it all out to see what it's worth at the top end. And I feel very confidant that when I get there, either I'll be completly underwhelmed at the options and features, or disgusted again they change everything right as I achieve the crafting cap.

Patrols are gone? Seems odd since they were just short missions (why delete them?)

The level specific random patrols are still available, howerver they do not ramp to your level, and you can not do them exclusivly solo.. The Mission ' Explore Strange New Worlds ' is gone. The Systems to Explore for that Mission are gone and replaced with a Mission Menu.

See how that works? They improved things by taking things away.

I've leveled a character from 1 to level 50 in two days, playing around six or seven hours a day. This was done by patrolling only. It was game breaking by having it scale to level. The missions gave extreme amounts of XP and took sometimes less than 5 minutes (going down to a planet, fixing some machines, beaming up) and essentially gave the same flat rate no matter what, so if it was 20 minutes, it gave the same amount as the five minute long mission.

They also removed the R/D system, and brought it back in what most long term players feel is a upgrade.

I noticed I'd level after completeing one mission almost every time, which I thought was a little rediculous. However it still took me forever to cap.

Leveling is uber easy. I have not finished every Episode the game has to offer, with about 500-600 hours in STO. It's probably a good thing, since you'll re-do some of them to get some nice peices of gear that is at current level :)

For some reason the game made it difficult for me to want to keep playing. I'd do a mission or two and I'd get bored after that. The only reason why I wanted to cap was to own the Galaxy Dreadnought. Even now after I paid the 50.00 to own it, I rarely play the game. I don't know what it is- maybe I'm looking for more interaction in a game. I did enjoy the story lines though. Visiting the same places I've seen in the show, or hearing the voice acting by the actors/actresses of the series. I think I play bridge commander with the kobiashi maru mod more than I play STO.

The galaxy dreadnought is 25 dollars, not 50. I also own it, and they've upgraded it alot. It no longer sucks.

I hate to say it, but people are stuck in the past when playing Bridge Commander. It was a great game, but ultimately it was lacking. The battles were nothing like the show. Legacy felt more realistic towards it. Bridge Commander is like comparing Rogue Legacy to World of Warcraft. Two different types of games all together, set in a similar setting. Atermis Bridge Simulator is Bridge Commander for people who have friends. If you have a group of Trekkers (4 needed) then I'd suggest that. It has star trek mods, and you only need to purchase 1 copy for I think up to eight computers.

STO is a MMO. You have to like the MMO process to like it. You have to like doing quest after quest, you have to like the process of grinding, and the process of "finding the right build". But yeah, ultimately it's a game for Trekkies. If you are a super trek fan like my friend Rod, then you are going to play this game until the cows come home.

Bridge Commander is also very, very ugly, graphically speaking. And yes, I play the kobyashi maryu mod. While STO is very beautiful at times.
