Screw it, I'm done (lost 18 hours-corrupted save)
This has crashed for the last time, losing 18 hours of gameplay (corrupted save) to a runtime error. Yeah... Done.

Ouch, that's not fun.

Sorry to hear that man, I've had the game crash before and wipe my entire inventory. Luckily I still had all my equipped gear and PD stuff.

Bugs/glitches like that really kill the game more than anything else.

I lost my save the first time i got close to dredmor, it made me stop playing this game for about a year.

Yeah, I've lost a bunch of saves over time. Just recently lost all my progress on the counter-based achievements. That was a new one.

Oh well, it's still fun and I'm still playing, but I can't say it's not annoying.

29-hours corrupt save here, wtf, save killing game. Every time I save it feels like it's saving the entire state of the real world included.

One thing that I learned is that the save games also include the mods themselves (I suppose that may be so that a change in a mod doesn't screw up your saved game). Some mods are huge, so that will contribute to the size of your save file.

I usually don't have serious problems playing. But, my current game is heavily modded, and I suspect that it is contributing to my current stability issues. I don't know if its a specific mod or mod interaction that is causing the issue, or just the shear bulk of all of the mods, but my game does crash fairly frequently to the point where I'm considering just abandoning it and starting over. I'm on level 8 gr/pd with a pure crafting build, and great, heavily encrusted gear defense at about 89, magic reflect about 75, so I think I can go all the way with it if not for all of the damned crashing. I hate starting over, but I hate even more to keep reloading the game from my last autosave. Most of the time I either don't use mods, or I only use a few.

So my advice is to be wary about how many and which mods you use. If you have crash a lot with mods, but don't crash all that frequently without them, that should tell you something (it told me a whole lot). Mods are great, but they probably should be used in moderation.

I tend to have the same. It took me a while, but I eventually found a proper balance of stable mods that keep the game fun and fair, and I always open the mod launcher to re-establish their validity before going, and I give enough time for the...rather ridiculously heavy auto-saves from going through.

also it helps to turn off steam cloud for the game. steam cloud can often be what eats saves, espicially after crashes.

Yep, I was fighting lord dredmor, and I died, it corrupted my save and autosave, and the last save was at floor 6. I am not going to bother continuing. I find it absurd to think this was properly tested. one playthrough would clearly show this has game breaking bugs.

Were you playing with perma-death on?
Scaff Sep 24, 2013 @ 12:03pm
Did your auto-save get corrupted too?
OmegaCenti Sep 24, 2013 @ 9:07pm
Scaff123, this is a rather old post, so I am not quite sure who you are addressing. But yes, the whole shabang was trashed. I have since stopped playing, as it is apparent that if the developers don't care enough about their public image and their products, then neither will I.

I'm sorry, but the developers have released multiple patches and expansions to this game. It's unfortunate that you've fallen prey to a bug they missed but what are you thinking they should have done? Work on this one game for the rest of their lives just in case there's a single bug they missed? Personally reply to you and give you individual care because you're some how more important than everyone else? What?

Actually, they do occasionally personally reply to posts regarding problems and bugs, and if not them, other people with intimate knowledge of the game. The catch is that you need to post in the official forums: http://community.gaslampgames.com/forums/bugs.6/

Not every problem may be solved, and not all of the ones that I've seen were related to actual program bugs (far too many were actually due to steam). The program is NOT completely bug-free, and there is still some work being done on it. But it has been very slow lately because they have another big project that they are working on. GLG is a small company, and while they DO make a good effort to address problems (lately more and more through community people such as Daynab), you may not necessarily get a solution.

The game IS relatively stable, but it's not perfect. I did recently find a replicable crash, and so I uploaded my save file, and it's been verified as replicable, and they are working to fix the problem. They really are quite helpful when the people asking for help are reasonable and post on their forums.

This bug is what caused me to quit playing .The game crashes so much and it's so unstable. It's kinda offensive the devs have never bothered to fix it yet they have released more paid DLC. Such a shame.
