Stealing from Brax
Is there anyway to steal from him without him attempting to kill you?

One thing I didn't see mentioned on that page is the Burglary level 5 ability 'Five-Finger Discount' which will take an item from the shop without angering Brax.

Other than "Five Finger Discount", there's no "legitimate" way to not anger Brax if you are stealing from him. I know that there have been some exploits in the past -- I'm not sure if any of them still remain unplugged. Any method of stealing other than Five Finger Discount, which others will recommend (/edit including the methods listed on the wiki) which DO NOT make Brax angry, are considered exploits. I'm not going to tell you not to use them -- it's a single-player game, so what do I care if you cheat. But they are definitely not intended.

That said, you CAN still steal from him and get away with it without getting killed, if you have the right skills or the right potions/fungi/wands/etc.

This is what I recommend, (assuming you fit the requirements outlined in the explanation):
1. Clear the level you are on first, because you will not want to return to it for anything. This includes completing any quests that are still left, selling anything to Brax that you want to sell, using all the anvils, opening all the locked chests, etc.
2. Plan your escape route carefully. If there is not a nearby down-staircase, find the nearest teleportal squares and know which one(s) will get you near to the staircase. Without careful planning, you could find yourself with too much to handle.
2b. Since you are leaving, you may as well take everything of value, not just that juicy object of your desire.
3. Assuming you don't want to fight your way out (and I don't recommend that unless you are very high level and a real, all-around stud or studdette), you'll need some means of rapid movement, such as those from Mathemagics, Burglary, Artful Dodger, and/or Ley Walker. Spatial Instability Infusions are generally not that great for this purpose because you want to direct where you end up, and generally speaking, they will not get you out of the room safely.
4. It's also a good idea to have a means of hiding. This includes Potions of Invisibility, the short-lived Inky Hoglanterns, and/or Burglary's Ninja Vanish. This is not ABSOLUTELY necessary, but just highly recommended, as you will not be attacked while invisible. Keep in mind though that if you use any skill (such as a teleport), that your invisibility will fall. Also keep in mind that Dread Collectors will keep spawning so long as there is a Brax on that level left alive. So you can find yourself easily surrounded. While invisible, this may mean waiting patiently for a hole to form in their formation so that you can pass. Don't waste your invisibility by prematurely using your skills/items, and only use them when absolutely necessary.

And that should do it. Never ever return to that level again.

With Psionics level 2 you can push the pedistals with the Items out of them room (it doesn't work with all of them). Pick up the Items from the pedistals and go down a floor. When you go back up Brax will not be mad at you.

You could always just kill Brax... if you really wanted to steal something(s).

Almost anything that allows you to move items can push the pedistals (Bufflo Throw, Rocket punch, etc), and if it won't move in the right direction you can always swich which one the items on. Just a few things to note though, don't go into any shops on that floor as Brax will call you on it (you can get around this by droping the item before you go in) and sometimes the game just likes to call you on it on a diffrent floor, so watch out for that.

If you can teleport, you can get out of the store without angering Brax. He won't be angered if you don't move, so just eat/drink until you can teleport again head towards the stairs.

Actually, teleporting out with a stolen item does make Brax angry (unless that's a new bug since the last update).

I'm using Moves in Mysterious Ways in Burglary, and as long as you don't walk, it works for me.

I misunderstood you then -- you're right, so long as you don't move OTHER than by teleportation.
Mandragoren 209 18. aug. 2013 kl. 3.31
Hehe, if you are carrying the item don't move, but picking it up and moving it to another square doesn't count. So you can do this all the way to the exit (make sure and turn off autoloot) if you are willing to take the time. Its not really worth it unless you find that perfect item for your build on floor one or two but it CAN make a huge difference.

I've done this several times, how I got my Kronghammer and dark mirror shield.
Brax is pretty easy to kill, but once you steal items it infinitely spawns Dread Collectors in greater and greater numbers, eventually overwhelming you.

So, clear the floor first, steal your items, then get out fast befor the screen fills with angry dread collectors.

Just make sure there's nothing left you want to do on that floor or any floor above it.

Get strong enough to kill 4 Brax and about 200 Dred Collectors, it's actually easier then some zoos.

Protip: make a path that allows the other Brax to come to you, since they will and the Dreds stop spawning when all the Brax are dead.
