I found it pretty annoying and wouldn't recommend it. Even with the benefits and if you can heal magically, I found one of the most annoying things was not being able to kill cute enemies. On certain levels, there's a lot of monsters you shouldn't kill. They just generally get in the way and the pathfinding can be really awful. Also AOE spells can get you in trouble. I'd say, get the achievement on a crap character then forget about it. Though I'd be interested to hear if someone had a good build with it.
im just picking random skills and vegan keeps appearing so often :S
I mainly use it to bulk up a mage character if I don't need anything else. Great stats, and the penalties don't go off for killing with spells. Obviously not really the spirit of the tree, though.

I've tried to like combinations like Vegan/Vampire/Magical Law. It has potential: Vegan's stats are great for a melee character, especially that health regen for a vampire, and you can polymorph animals into other things to avoid the penalty, or simply use Rune of Objection to project the penalty onto enemies when it appears. But it's still pretty fiddly, especially in the first few floors. I just think the whole skill design is "have some power in exchange for being annoyed", and I don't play games to be annoyed.
Vegan is pretty powerful, and the strengths more than make up for the weaknesses. But the downside can make for some frustration sometimes.
I'll attempt to create a good build for it, it should be possible
I have come to the conclusion of yes. As long as you put a point into the second and third skills early on you're good. the second skill will take care of manuvering and lost kills, as the animal will behave as a companion and attack other animals. the third skill gives increased exp when you kill vegetables and some health, which is useful
Yes. It is good for strength build. I'm not sure how but you can still kill animals indirectly without any debuff by throwing brimstone flask or cast a powerfull area spell.
It just seems more bother than it's worth.
It is a very useful skill tree. You just have to look at what it really does for you. Healing is one of the most important parts of a melee/tanky build, so it is practically a must for those. In the end it gives you an amazing +5 to your health regeneration. So stacked with some items or other things you could easily get your health regen to proc every turn with it.
It seems like it'd make it really hard to level up due to not being able to fight a lot of the enemies.
Yes, it is still worthwhile. The animal clutter is valid, but not only spells, but arrows, throwing weapons, and wands can kill them without invoking a penalty. Beware if you go into wizard portals, in those drunken lands all animals are aggressive. Used to not always be that way, but Diggle Hell was a cake walk as nothing, not even Vlad Diggle, attacked you.
Definitely Not Batman lähetti viestin:

You can kill creatures win range attacks just not meele.

I like using this skill tree in conjuction with the druid mod. Both give you extra exp for killing veggies and both are nature related.
I just finished a run which had vegan in it, the stat gains from it are simply incerdible. I was also using mathemagic, Beklam's diminishing calculus, Curse of the golden ratio and Recursive curse all worked wonders for killing animal type enemies. It was a little bit of a faff at times, but I'd say it's a pretty powerful skill overall.

That and you don't have to be afraid of diggle archmages cursing you.
It's an amazing skill for sequence breaking. As soon as you learn Animal Friend, you can sneak around on deeper floors and gain ridiculous experience by having higher-level monsters fight for you. Just stay near the stairs and think twice about opening doors lest you run into a Monster Zoo.
It works even better combined with geology becaouse you can buff your pets with Plutonic Fis, which makes getting rid of the clutter SO much faster.

This is really strange but I posted on this skill over a year ago. It's cool to hear that the skill has a lot of value! I would like to ask everyone that had success with vegan to post a 7 skill build they played with. While it's cool to post your sucess, please post your full build along with difficulty and success. Thanks in advance!
