Dungeons of Dredmor
Teleporting after killing enemy?
Hello!

Fairly new to this game; first playthrough, only about 9 full levels deep.

Since about floor 3 I've noticed something peculiar. Often (something like 15-25% of the time) when I kill an enemy I immediately teleport about 3-5 squares away in some random direction. I'm not casting any teleportation skills. Sometimes it teleports me through unopened doors or, even worse, unconnected rooms.

I'm convinced that when I finally die (permadeath is on) it'll be because I get teleported into a room surrounded by enemies and can't get out, and I don't even know why this is happening.

At first I thought it was due to some side effect of the enemy I was killing, but it seems like any enemy can teleport me on death. Then I thought it was some cursed equipment I was holding or something, but I don't see any mention of it. I check the battle log expecting that, after being teleported when killing an enemy, it would at least mention why, but I don't see anything there either.

Anyone know why this is happening? Is it a bug?

Two possibilities come to mind. The most likely is that it's from an instability on something you encrusted. Less likely is that you got cursed by some trap (that I THINK would show a debuff on you and it would be temporary).

Check your armor and weapons -- you should be able to tell if anything you are wearing/wielding is unstable, although it won't tell you which particular instability you have on it. If that's the case, you might want to find a decent replacement. If it's from a trap, it should go away eventually.

/edit Third thing I thought of but is less likely because you probably would be aware of it. If you have Transdimensional Dodge from the Artful Dodger skillset, it can randomly teleport you when you dodge an attack.

It's not a curse; I'm not showing any debuffs, and this is defintely not temporary (several whole cleared floors now of this).
It's not Transdimensional Dodge; I don't have the Artful Dodger skillset.
It may be from equipment, but
a.) I've cycled out pretty much every piece of equipment I have with better stuff as I've descended
b.) I dunno how to check for that. I can see icons for what stats the stuff gives me, but I don't know any way to see passive effects like this (I doubt equipment has passive effects tbh).

So... this is not normal then? BTW, Unmodded with all expansions.

Items in general (weapons, armor, jewelry) all can have passive effects, but the specifics are not always apparent by looking at them. To give an example, "The Amber Ring of Unending Time" can cause paralysis at random (to you or to the target), even though it's not in the item description. In fact, if you have a randomized artifact with that item as its base, that item can have the same effect as well.

But I wasn't talking about that kind of effect, I was talking about instability. I wrote an explanation of that in a guide so instead of regurgitating that info, I'll just link you to it. Check the section on Encrusting: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=164426644

I just thought of another way that this could happen -- kronging an item can give it a passive effect (i'm not sure if teleportation is one of the possibilities, but it coudl be). That said, when that happens, it should be added at the bottom of the item description (unlike when an item is unstable).
OK, I have krong'ed many items that are currently in my inventory, some "pleases" and some "displeases". It is probably an item. I'll scan the descriptions next time I'm in game and see if that's what's going on.
I do recall one hat that causes teleportation, and doesn't quite say that's what it does. I've once teleported into an inescapable room because of it.

Honestly the only time I ever randomly teleported without control.

Wow, sounds dangerous.

I don't care how good this item is; whatever item is causing this is getting sold :P

At least it sounds like this isn't very common.

OK cool. That was a good clue -- I checked on hats in Dredmorpedia (http://j-factor.com/dredmorpedia/#item-5-1260). The Gnomish Cap has a 10% chance of teleporting you whenever you hit in melee. It's an artifact so it will have random stats.
FML, that's it. I've been too busy to log in lately, but I know for a fact I'm wearing that Gnomish Cap thing and never read that part of the description. Mine's an expensive little hat and gives great stats, but the teleport thing is driving me nuts and sounds dangerous so it better go.

I do think the battle log in the top left should give an indication when teleport was proc'ed though..

Thanks a lot guys. I've read that the dredmor community is amazing, and you're showing why (I come from dota 2 land :P )

Cheers. Mark this issue SOLVED: GNOMISH CAP CAUSES TELEPORT ON MELEE STRIKE

Welp.

It happened. I was waiting to find a decent hat to swap my gnomish cap with. Found a battle room. Got teleported into the middle of the room with a flame under my feet. Dead on floor 10 with 40 hours in. :c

At least on my next run I won't have to go crazy tp'ing away from everything without knowing why for several floors.
