It's pretty. It tries to do something interesting with the weapon system. That's about all the good I can say about it. The game mistakes "challenge" for "swarming you with several hundred tiny enemies". Imagine HALO if The Archive had been the only part in the game. Every single area area has tiny holes that are very obviously meant for the two tiny enemy types (walking tiny screwdriver, walking tiny chainsaw). Attempts to create tension by having something run by just out of sight fall flat on its face and just make you groan, "goddammit not this ♥♥♥♥ again." Literally every room has this happen.
The offering of choice in weapon upgrades is purely illusory; if you don't take the specific upgrade paths intended by the designers, you are hilariously incapable of dealing with anything. -EVERYTHING- is a bullet sponge. There is very little variety in either location or enemies, and any rare moment of uniqueness is immediately spoiled by yet another uninspired slog through a sea of tiny screwdrivers and micro-chainsaws. Many of the enemies are supposedly maintenence/industrial robots gone haywire, but the designs for the most part make no sense for their setting. What in the world are all these bipedal chainsaws supposed to be used for?!
Speaking of things with no use, apparently everything in the future explodes in horriffically dangerous ways with the slightest provocation. Not only that, you are expected to make use of all these wacky exploding background bits despite initially working for the city.
The game tries desperately to invoke the difficulty of "old school" shooters almost as a badge of honor. It fails miserably. I can, to this day, pick up and play Doom 1 & 2 and other old shooters that Hard Reset claims to strive to be. I really tried to give this game a chance, but it just falls flat.
This game isn't that great. Maybe I don't get it. I just can't ignore the AWFUL writing and dialogue. The game itself has a really steep difficulty curve. I was expecting this to be more like Shadow Warrior or maybe Serious Sam, instead it's just outright unbalanced. Or I'm just bad at it. Your choice. Either way I didn't have fun.

this game has no sense. let me explain... good level design and dark science fiction atmosphere are not enough to justify a game which is boring and repetitive. the level up system is interesting but i think that this is not sufficient to raise the mark to a positive judgement.
buy this game if you find it on sale and quit after a few hours!
I was playing one normal till I realised it is just another get to new area get swarmed by the next wave..It is just a ok shooter but got tired of the swarms when moving to a new area, Play on easy as there is nothing really good here, Wish there was a story but sad but true nothing to really get involded with. Was hoping for more but the reviews i have seen sum it up.Icheap enough it will give you around 8-10 hours .I bought it on the cheap and hey if cheap enough Buy it if you want a semi mindless Shooter.
