GFWL = no way!
I was just about to buy this (despite the naysayers) as I can usually figure stuff out and get games running if they only bug out for some people.
Then I saw that it's GFWL.

Ugh.

Can't we just declare that a failed experiment, throw it away and move on?

Actually, if i'm not mistaken, it isn't, anymore, since patch 1.1. They moved to Steamworks. Check out the forums on the developers (Signal Studios) webpage.

Yes, it now gives you the option to play Steamworks or the GFWL version when you launch.

I picked it up a couple days ago (also despite the naysayers) and the only problem I had was that it wouldn't initially play until I launched the GFWL option. It got to the page where you choose an account name and password but I just closed out of that and uninstalled all the GFWL junk. Been running fine ever since. Pretty fun game - too bad the PC release has been so rocky.

How about you stop whining instead? Outside of people with an unnatural obsession with DRM, ost people have no problem with GFWL whatsoever.

1.1 Makes GFWL optional so that's not really a valid concern.

The fact that 4:3 monitors are not supported is something worth mentioning

Optional GFWL puts me back on the fence.
It has nothing to do with DRM (I play AC:B for crying out loud), but is rooted in it's horrible horrible implementation of multiplayer. Yes, I know this isn't a multiplayer game, but it's at the point where I've decided to "vote with the wallet" and not buy GFWL games.

The game works fine and is great fun, even when it had GFWL. Pick it up.

GFWL IS NOT OPTIONAL. It still INSTALLED THE PIECE OF ♥♥♥♥. So much rage in my soul atm.

Because you can't manage to spend a minute or two at most setting up something that isn't Steam?
Demonen Oct 29, 2012 @ 7:38am
Heh, that's not at all the thing.

I had a horrible experience with GFWL, where it didn't work very well. That's not so bad, I guess, but I contacted support. BAD idea.
The GFWL support was horrible. Not only did they not solve my problem, they made it worse (from "sometimes won't allow me to connect" to "never ever allows me to connect").

Also, I kept getting canned responses with the parts they were supposed to change were not changed. My favorite was "I'm sorry you are still having trouble with [PARAPHRASE ISSUE]."

Yeah, I still have trouble with [PARAPHRASE ISSUE], idiot.

So yeah, after that horrible experience I've decided to avoid GFWL games to try and do my bit to make it die a slow death.

I've had several games on steam that are GFWL. All you have to do is just close the login stuff that it gives you.
EnderW Feb 23, 2013 @ 11:08am
most games that require gfwl wont launch when you deinstall it, they wont even tell you that, they would just crash to desktop at startup with no error message whatsoever. And even though I hate DRMs, that isnt the worst part about gfwl. It is just an utter piece of crap that only makes a lot of problems, tries to put you some stupid store app on your pc with no native uninstall nor with shortcuts to the actual gfwl component necesary for your games. There are tons of more issues I could describe here concerning the web pages belonging to gfwl, including a nasty story about trying to delete the account...its just a mess.
I can just strongly recommend everyone to never ever buy anything you need gfwl for to run. A lot of people have learned that already and its just a dieing thing

Ive never had a problem with GFWL, but at the same time i dont care for it or want it really(wont stop me buying great games that need it). This game does not need it (optinal) last i checked and is a fun game. I say buy it and have some fun with it.
DarkSaber2k Feb 23, 2013 @ 11:23am
If it's optional why does the store page have a paragraph dedicated to telling you to activate your DLC codes on GFWL?
