Crash On Stratup-help?
So I've had this game for a couple weeks now off of Steam and I really enjoy it bu tall of a sudden today, it decided to stop working. The game begins to load like normal and the screen goes black for a second but then the window closes and the game crashes like it never even started up. Please help me. What should I do?

Posted by weedo on the old forums: "I went into the game directory and launched game.exe directly, that's the GFWL version and it did work fine. Then I launched the Steamworks version and it works fine now too. I guess you have to launch the GFWL version or it wont work at all."

Worked for me.

wow, yea, that cleared it up for me as well. Just sucks for the people who couldn't run the gfwl version in the first place.

Ya that seams to work. I find it odd though that this would happen. It had me really bummed out for a while.

It's still crashing for me, even when I do that. Any other tricks?

wtf is gfwl version?

Colonel Lawrence: GFWL is "Games For Windows Live" it's like Xbox live I guess but for PC Windows.

MrSegraves: Sometimes it still crashes for me but I found that it works like 100% of the time if it is run through windows live instead of steam but sometimes it does not give me the option to choose windows live so it crashes... I find that if you just try to open it like 5 times then it will probably display the option. I don't understand the system but at least I can still play it.

terarosekise: find the Steam directory on your hard drive, then look in /steamapps/common/toy soldiers. There are two applications: Game and GameSW. "Game" is the GFWL version, "GameSW" is the Steamworks version. You should be able to launch either by double-clicking them. There are also two other smaller files named Game.exe in there - you don't want those, just the ones with the TS icons.

If you can't start the GFWL version at all, you may want to try manually updating/installing Games for Windows Live directly from Microsoft. I know this fixes problems for some people. I even had to do that once when I was trying out a Warhammer demo a while back. Just Google "GFWL Client" and it should put you on the right track.

Crash on start....
does anybody have the same problem?
Predator_Fett Feb 21, 2013 @ 6:12pm
Still have the same problem. It's offensive to me how much BS I've gone through just to get this to work. I would go to sleep happy if the company who released this worthless port went out of business.
