As of 09-30-2012 Sale, do NOT BUY TOY SOLDIERS
THIS THREAD IS NOW CLOSED.

The developers of this game ought to be ashamed of theirselves for putting this game on sale. If you go to the old Toy Soldiers forum here on steam you will find dozens of complaints regarding the playability of Toy Soldiers on many PC's. It is UNPLAYABLE do to a port over from the consoles. A patch was promised and NOT delivered. Hundreds of customers have purchased an unplayable game, with promise of a patch that has NOT been delivered. And now to see the game on sale on Steam is a slap in the face.

Would this issue be a case of as soon as you go to play it the bugger wont load up at all as this is the issue i seem to be having with it at the moment

No, it loads but, the FPS is like 1-2 frames per second. It's been proven to be a sound issue.

Does it still have the bug of directly crashing after start up like this had on release?
If thats still going on you can just alt tab while the black screen is ther after start up and than go back in game and it should work.

Also i didnt really like the GFWL. Atleast the gameplay wasnt to bad.

single player game in 2012 and only 50% off is not a deal.

I don't see what you're talking about, the game has been working perfectly for me and I've been playing it for almost 2 hours already. My FPS is really smooth, the controls working fine and my game loads up just fine when I launch it. I don't know what bugs you're talking about, but it must only seem to affect you and a certain group of people cus I'm experiencing no problems whatsoever.

Yep, the FPS is lousy. Guess I should have read the forums first. Maybe we'll luck out and get a patch for it eventually. Never had anything bad to say about Steam till now. I feel like I've been sucker punched in the wallet.

For some reason, it only affects some PC's, but from reports, its quite a few.
codester06 Sep 30, 2012 @ 2:55pm
I have been playing it the last hour with no problems at all. I will let you guys know if I start having any issues.

I bought this game in the Steam Summer Sale, every time I load it.. it crashes! From the Store Page the game looked really enjoyable.. waste of £10.

I was thinking to buy it, because it seemed fun. But since there is no multiplayer and sooooo many complaints, that ain't gonna happen.

The game runs perfectly fine on both my Desktop and Laptop. Yes it doesn't have the multiplayer from the 360 version, but it does have both the DLCs included for free and at a cheaper price point.

2012 has nothing to do with a game having single player only. The game is great value.

@RDBruski.
Why do you and some others like you insist on telling people not to purchase games ^^ .
Just because you and some others are having issues with them.
It does not mean everybody will,
The game has always run perfectly for me and is great value for money IMHO.
Whilst I understand and sympatise with your obvious frustrations, rather than being completely negative and trying to impose your unbalanced viewpoint on others who might well like to play and enjoy this game.
Try simply asking for some help with sorting out your issues with it.
Perhaps then you yourself may get to play and enjoy it also ^^.
Try verifying your games file cache, from it's launch icon / properties / local files, then perhaps manually uninstallling GFWL & then updating it to the latest version, via download from GFWL website,, update your sound and graphics card drivers & also Direct X , declutter your PC of old Temp files etc and if all else fails try reinstalling the game itself if after that still no joy try contacting tech support.
P.S an update for the game was released yesterday 10th October which added Steamworks achievements maybe that will help your situation.
Happy Gaming :)

Good Luck :)

Why? Simple. The company that made this game ported it over to the PC with problems. The problems are known and documented as read about on several forums. In July of this year, they said there was going to be a patch for these problems. The patch didn't come until Oct 10. However, on 09/30, there was a sale for a BROKEN game, not a running game that needed a small patch, a BROKEN game. Yes, it wasn't broken for some. But for many it was. So, I personally was advocating for customers to NOT buy this game because it was on sale on Steam with NO patch! That is bad business practices.

The fix is apparently listed below in the patch notes, which if it is correct, will make me happy and allow me to pay a game that I gave up money for.

"Performance improvements

This patch includes improvements to the audio engine that fix performance problems with the game’s framerate, particularly for users running Windows XP."

Customers vote with their money, simple as that.
