Just 100% The Game [Review]

I just finished the game. 100%. Got all the achievements and I beat every level without taking any damage on Hard Mode to boot. Did that as a challenge to myself. So what do I think of this game?

The game took me exactly 30 hours to complete at 100% and finishing the Hard campaign without losing any life. I think it was worth the investment I put in. It was a great time waster and nothing tops nostalgia factor for kids like me who grew up in the 80s. Many toy soldiers have served me valiantly when I was a child and seeing them brought to virtual life was nuts. I think this game caters specifically to guys my age, 30s and up. The nostalgia factor alone was worth the buy.

The game is simple to play but difficult to master. The graphics were fun and detailed and allowed me to believe I was fighting in my own toy box. The units were varied enough to keep things interesting (I HATE cavalry units.) The music was super old school, very 1920s which was interesting, found myself singing along with some of them later on. The controls were tight but being proficient in the many different weapons had a steep learning curve, especially the planes and cannons. This game is not impossible. Some levels are insanely hard while some are ridiculously easy and not in order either; so don't give up. For my two cents, I think the game was a great buy and I can say honestly that I had a lot of fun.

Buy and play this game! Especially if you actually played with toy soldiers as a kid.

I have seen those too. In full disclosure, the game didn't crash on me except one time. And that one time was really my fault, I was Alt+Tab-ing like crazy playing the game and chatting with my friends. That happens to every game when you are doing what you're not supposed to. Other then that, the game has given me no problems at all.

The bosses are intense and are my favorite/most hated parts. Beating them on hard mode definitely gives you a great sense of accomplishment. There are usually 20 or so waves of enemies that attack you. They are the typical TD (tower defense) affairs. Infantry, light vehicle, heavy vehicle and air. Although they mix it up very well. Should I save money to prepare for the NEXT wave? Or do I upgrade my units to give me a better chance THIS wave?

All in all, great game. One of the best TD games I have played. Definitely the most memorable.

Can you play as offense and not just defense?

On some levels you get to play with offensive toys. You get either a tank or plane (2 types: fighter and bomber). Even then when you have control over the tank/plane, your goal is to still defend your base. You don't take down their base.

You're probably right. I was born in 85 so my knowledge of early turn of the century is mostly guessing. I am very uneducated in that field, sorry.

Well, as only you are having the problem in this thread, it's not really "everyone". But I will admit certain games seem to not be properly configured to run on every system, or even most systems. And it looks like this one may be one of them.

Still, you shouldnt come in here and trash the guys "review" because you have one of those systems. He enjoyed the game, and felt like sharing. You have your threads for complaining about the games supposed problems, let him have his.

Good review. People forget that the #1 reason people post in any gaming forum is they have a problem. It is rare that a person posts that the game worked fine and give a solid review. There is a weird phenomenon where people who have an issue will lash out at people who don't as if they think those without a problem are somehow going to keep people from help with real issues.

I never had an issue and had a blast getting to 100%. Haven't played in a while, but I will be back. This game deserves a DLC with some more maps and/ or a two to four person multi player.

There is a way (hopefully) to get any game to work on a computer. I have the same problem of having trouble getting the game to work, I think I found how to get it to work. I played the game once at a friend's house and loved it.

I'm almost through it. Been having lots of fun with it once I started figuring the game out. I had it sitting in my game inventory forever but never really spent much time on it until lately. Glad I did.

what sucks is that for the "Campaign +" they really didn't change the map or gameplay much.
