Does this game allow for coop play? can 2 players over steam play against 2 AI bots?

you can play the single player campaign in co-op. You play with usually 1-3 units each, against around 5-10 enemies per mission. Single player is kind of boring alone, but it's really fun in co-op!

co-op is only 2 people. Maybe in Frozen Synapse 2 more than 2 people will be able to play together, but as of right now, no...

No release date yet, sometime in 2017! I think they are planning doing a closed beta around March, so we still have to wait a bit... you can sign up for the beta if you want, not sure what's the email address though... look up the Mode 7 youtube channel if you're interested, they have tons of videos about FS2

Sorry, I forgot to mention that co.op is a feature of the Red DLC! You need to own the DLC to challange others to co-op matches! Not sure if you need to own the DLC to join a co-op game, but the challange feature only shows up for co-op if you own the DLC... and then you can play the single player campaign, the Red DLC campaign, and the challange missions in co-op.
