Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013

DO NOT BUY - This is buggy beta software - reasons listed
1. the buttons don't work - multiple clicks needed
2. people log off in multiplayer mode before the 20 clicks are finally processed
3. the IM lags and letters a missed - its impossible to communicate effectivly
4. Everyone seems rude - because the IM is so bad people give up trying to talk and show etticate - it kills the community
5. game frequently locks on graveyard viewer, and on zoom in. game lags and misses key phases.
6. game design require constant vigilence - you WILL lose games because you looked away from screen for 5 seconds. Phases of the game should have a button promt...this is not footbal it's chess.

Magic is the best game there is and the programmers should be ashamed of this shoddy work. As I say in the title post this should be in beta testing and they should iron these things out....but saying that I am typing this now in steam with lag (i have never experience typing lag in my life) so perhaps steam is the problem.

Just some one sort it out and take some responsibilty - you don't own the game - the people that play it do.

This has been discussed to death mate.
Btw. Perhaps get a better PC? Never experienced lagging.

It'sa a simple card game not quake. It is discussed to death maybe because the issue is never resolved. LISTEN rather than burying your head in the sand. THIS TXT IS LAGGING NOW ALL THE TIME...the letter takes a second to appear. ITS TEXT and I wont buy a hight end PC to type TEXT. MAKE PROPER SOFTWARE. Also have steam knowledge of the internet and common features like cut and paste. This is like an alternative reality that branched off in the early 90s. I'm berwildered by it's patheticness.

Yeah, so don't buy it and just be quiet. You are getting so worked up by this, grab some pills or bear, chill out. I would say you got some video driver/card issue there as steam is overlay. Perhaps you reached limit on you 2MB matrox. Try using internet browser instead of steam app.

I never experience lag either. But I think Mad may have been wrong in suggesting your computer is to blame. If the text you are typing here takes a second to appear, I strongly suspect the source of lag to be your internet connection. A slow connection would also explain the problems you are having in-game.

And just so you know, I play MTGO much more than this game as I prefer it, so I don't have my head in the sand. I am only trying to help you get to the bottom of your problem so you can njoy your experience in playing DoTP.

God bless.

I have over 1000 hours with this game and have never experienced any of the above. Except the rude players part - I've come across 1 or 2. The vast majority of people are friendly. And while lag exists, it almost never does anything other than pause the game for a few seconds (for me).

The game does have bugs, and it sometimes has connecion issues. For me, they have all been very minor. This is probably the best overall game I've ever played (and it is the only one I've played regularly in the last year). Twenty dollars, counting the DLC, for 1000 hours.

Internet connection would matter if these forums were chat like thing. But nevermind that. Just listen what guys said. For what I paid for that game I am very pleased. I paid more for and played much worse games than dotp.

Good advice. Bears always relax me.

On topic, I haven't experienced most of those problems. The people in DotP aren't always amazingly friendly, but they're consistently nicer than other gaming communities. As for point #6 I completely agree there. The timers are the single design choice I take serious issue with. Otherwise it's a very enjoyable game and has been completely worth the money I spent, especially since I bought it half off during the holiday sale.

Yeah, I meant teddy bear sorry. People make such a fuss about a game thats worth few pints really. Just enjoy the bloody game.

The lag happens. Typically its due to constrained links. The game just locks you out of taking actions entirely sometimes. I used to play it with someone hosting who was using internet over his cellphone and sometimes I didn't get a turn at all.

Not saying all games should be flawless over a slow link, but a turn based game sure could avoid timing problems, even if the player might get bored sometimes.

I realise I was far too angy initially but sometimes u have to be angy to be a post that people comment on. And thatkyou for your goodwill.

First we must distinguish great game from great software. MTG is a great game. The programmers have no credit for the game only the service and they failed. The AI is good I'll grant them that.

People are rude when they can't communicate - my anger was because a lot of failed communication had bottled up. People in cars for example get road rage because they is no real social interaction. I want to say hi to people but I can't do this on the battle waiting screen. It misses most of my key presses.

So many issue that can not all be listed. but some reasons why a game has been ruined.
Moving cards - the cards float around and I've clicken the wrong one - some allow the click to be cancelled some don't (why the inocnsistency) . You must remember that the timers encourage a sense of rushing...and that brings be to cards like demonic tutor...it's almost impossible to look at my deck in the time given never mind someone elses.

The time bars should only be for the entire turn and each phase should prompt a space bar push rather than demanding constant vigilence. This has worked for many years with chess.

It's obvious that people with expensive PCs are the polite nice people and people with just normal pcs (that work fine on anything else) are the rude people. I get frustrated because not a game goes by where there is one issue or another - a person is a product of their environment - make software that works for everyone and the community will grow....but there isn't even a way to add contacts from the battle or lobby screen...so there is no attempt to build a real community. There's no love to this product .... and I think the magic commnity deserves better.

And.... why no buzzer on the lobby - I'm not seriously going to sit looking at the screen for 5 minutes waiting for people to arrive. I list a battle - browse the internet for 30 seconds and someone leaves just as I arrive - again I feel people should be more patient and they probably feel why is this listing battles and then not playing - it all breads a feeling that the other guy is an idiot. But the software makes idiots.

I'm sorry that your experience has been poor. And I agree that the game has some issues - I haven't experienced your issues but others certainly exist.

The timers problem has been brought up on the wizards forums and the forum rep has said that they are looking into ways to make it better. I agree that there should be more time to search for something with Demonic Tutor, and the most serious issue is that if there are a lot of attackers and blockers, sometimes it will time out before you can assign all blockers.

But the timers also exist for a good reason - the flip side of not having enough time is that sometimes rude players will abuse the timer, and take really long turns just to try to get their opponent to quit (I haven't experienced this but I've seen reports of it). The decision to put in fast timers was a deliberate one to create a faster paced game - they are looking at ways to improve the issue, but they won't remove them. If you play the game some more, you'll get used to it.

It's true you can't chat in the loading screens. You should be able to chat in the lobby or at any point during the game once it has started. It you are having problems it is probably your internet connection that is responsible.

But there are TONS of friendly, great players out there. Join something called The Planeswalking Dead group on steam and friend request any of members. I have yet to encounter any member of that group that has been rude.

Well if there are enough the UI doesn't really even work any more. You can't tell what you're blocking at all, let alone what it is that you're blocking.

That's true. Although that situation is admittedly very rare unless you are deliberately stalling the game against the AI.

This game should have servers instead of quick match. So we can at least know who is playing or not.. I keep getting the unable to connect bs, but it happens when it says * pending to join* . The first time I played, I had no problems. This is annoying when you bought every deck lol
