Which deck packs are the best? / Are they worth it?
So I just got the expansion pack which has 5 extra decks and they're great fun but i'm already thinking about getting the extra deck packs. Are they worth it? which deck packs have the most fun/powerful decks?

Some people don't like them, but they're all probably worth it.

Deck pack 1 - probably the weakest overall, but also probably my favorite:
--Sky and Scale is pretty powerful in 1v1, it can be built in different ways, but it's very effective as an aggro deck that can fairly constantly disrupt its opponents while pushing some damage through every turn. It is a weak 2HG deck however.
--Act of War - a lot of people say it's one of the weakest decks in the game - I mostly disagree. It can be built as either a fast aggro deck or as a control deck; I've found a mixture of both is probably the best. It OWNS goblins but also has a lot of bad matchups - I like the deck but it's definitely not in the top half of decks.

Deck pack 2 - it's more powerful than Deck Pack 1, by a lot.
--Grim Procession - fun, very powerful in all formats. One of the stronger decks in the game.
--Berserker Rage - has consistency problems and little removal, but in my opinion, is very fun to play. It can win the game by turn 3. It's very fast, and instead of removal, you just cast instants that give your attackers trample and they stomp all over the blockers.

Deck pack 3 - my least favorite by far
--Mana Mastery is very powerful, easily the most powerful of all of the deck pack decks, and it's fun to play for maybe 10 or 20 games, then it gets very boring. At least a third of the decks in the game have no chance against it. The flip side is that it is all but incapable of beating 4-6 decks as well. There are threads devoted to how overpowered this deck is, and while they exaggerate things, they have a point too.
--Rogue's Gallery is by far the worst deck in the game. I like playing it, and it can win games - because the worst deck is still ok. But it doesn't have a favorable match-up against a single other deck, and it has a ton of unfavorable match-ups.

Also you should know that every deck pack deck only has 30 unlocks instead of 40 - there are no promo unlocks for them.

That's a genuinely great summary of all the decks, thanks loads!

I think after your help i'll probably grab them all. I'll probably get them one at a time tho starting with deck pack 3 and going backwards. I've gotta say that after reading a little about mana mastery it sounds very intriguing :p

GP is great deck. It's certainly in the top half and probably in the top 3rd in terms of power. If you haven't had success with it, you should check the WOTC forums for a lot of build possibilities.

All the decks are fun to play. I wouldn't take the above comments srsly though if you plan on playing a lot of 2HG. Because deck packs 1 and 2 are mostly garbage for it. BR definitely has its uses but if any of those first two deck packs get bad draws, and they will, you can kiss your butt goodbye. MM helps to combat Crosswinds at times and it helps other lower tier deck packs out so not getting it is ridiculous as it is played quite often and you will want it on hand for when you are teamed with other noobs. GP is definitely a decent deck but still middle of the road and up for debate whether it is top 1/3. It IS better than some of them in 1v1 for sure as are some of the others. And this is the deal: Promos. Without them no deck but MM can really hold its wait in intense 2HG matches consistently. In 1v1 the deck packs at times can fare okay to well depending on what you are up against. Also I disagree again about RG. That deck is fun as hell in 2HG and is very useful when combined with a top tier deck.

Mana Mastery is the deck to play in 2hg if you want your partner wishing you'd go play "solitaire" somewhere else. It's dull as watching paint dry as well. You have to carry a huge load while MM takes it's sweet time to get it's mana. Usually MM players will cut their own partner's throats as well.
GP is a great. well rounded deck.
Act of War "looks" bad, but has surprising strength.
BR is nigh on worthless unless paired with other red decks.
The problem with RG is it's lack of control and lack of removal for a BLUE BLACK deck. It's beyond silly lacking this.
Sky and Scale is one of those that takes 5 mana to get going. When it does, it can take over. However, it's tough getting there.

I play art of war but usually in matches where the opposing team in 2HG wants to play low tier and then it is quite fun. The game is ridiculously imbalanced. That is all there is to it. The promos made this game out of whack beyond belief. Looking forward to next year even though I still have an addiction to this one.

My comments were all for 1v1 and not 2HG. RG is the only bad deck in the deck packs for 1v1. I would imagine it's great in 2HG as long as it was paired with an upper tier deck. It seems like a pretty decent support deck, but I haven't played it in 2HG yet. It is pretty bad in 1v1, which I play a lot more than I do 2HG.

Deck pack 2 is probably the best deck pack for 2HG in my opinion. GP is great in any format, but I think it actually performs better in 2HG than 1v1 (because cards like Debtor's Knell become more relevant in 2HG but aren't very playable in 1v1, and Tainted Sigil is one of the best 2HG cards that exists). BR is great (when paired with GM or goblins or Act of War). It's a limited pairing to be sure, but is one of the stronger 2HG combos and probably the fastest overall combo.

It would be great if the deck packs had promos, and they should have included them - but the deck packs are still great without them. GP and MM, in particular, have no need for promos at all - it's hard enough to cut cards from them as it is. I do wish the other 4 decks had them though. RG, AoW and BR could have been amazing decks with promos. They probably aren't necessary for SaS (in 1v1) but it maybe could have used some cards to make it better in 2HG.

Having purchased all of the DLC, if I was forced to go back and buy only 1 then I would pick Deck Pack 2. I have to agree with the gentlemen above about Grim Procession. 1v1, 2HG, 3-4 FFA even the plains format it seems to hold its own pretty well. It is not the hands down best but you'll put up a good fight regardless of who you come up against. Also you seem to get a lot of different mechanics all in one deck. You get some life gain, fliers, creature/artificat/enchantment/land removal, pumpable creatures, undying, etc..

That would be my pick anyway.

Well i usually play 2hg so i can be wrong about some decks in single format.
Generally the most powerful decks (for me) are single-colored:
Jace, Talrand, Lily, Chandra are very good (but Jace IS too g@y IMHO)
They dont need much support from ally and can make game on their own.

Multicolored are good, MM is very good BUT they do need support deck to play with (Mindstorms for example) and doing pretty well in mid-end game.

So that's my opinion for some decks:
Jace - strong but gay
Talrand - doing pretty well but a little gay with this thievery and repeatable Warp
Lily (obedient dead) - very very balanced and pretty strong (black powa maaan)
Chandra (born if flames) - Depends on opponent (good vs creatures/weak vs enchants, also depends on draw. If you have Furnace + some nukes - you're doing well)
Green decks (both pure green) - doing pretty well usually but they need a good hand to show their might, usually very poor vs control decks
Mindstorms - well... when i've played it 1st time i've said "wow, nice deck". After losing 5-10 times with noob ally i thought that it doesnt work BUT when i understood that it's support deck it became just brilliant. Best deck to play with MM/ any deck that needs many cards to play.
GP -pretty good
Rogues Gallery - usually suxx ((
Grinning Malice - pretty good with direct damage decks, very very depends on draw
mr_jah Feb 28, 2013 @ 3:27am
Art of War - kinda weak 4 me (imho)
Berserk deck - well... it really depends on your opponent's hand - suxx so much vs control
Gobboz - suck vs any control, sucks vs green, sucks vs red, sucks vs black... pity
All white decks (+aura) - Well... pretty good low lvl cratures, have some control spells, have lots HP but still sucks hard vs black (hehe) and they need you not to disrupt them just to scratch you a little (sucks so hard vs Chandra/Lily)
