Windows 8 Compatibility
Does anyone know how to get this working properly in Windows 8?

What exactly is the problem?
I'll probably go Windows 8 later and I'd HATE if I couldn't play Kohan anymore. So let's try to solve this. :)

There's a really annoying lag (about a second or two long) every time I click something. Scrolling is really laggy too.

Have you tried lowering your screen resolution on the desktop to the same as in the game?

I found a post on Timegate Studios forum about something I think is related. A person over there have problems with stuttering mouse and racing CPU or GPU fan. Unfortunately no one have answered his post.
Steam removes a lot of links so I won't try to post the link to the forum post here. It shouldn't be too hard to find the website on google.

If this is related I suspect a graphic card problem. Maybe something with the drivers or a setting?

It could also be that your computer simply is too fast. Some old games stutter and lag because of that. In that case it could be worth it to try playing it with moslo.

I've seen that post too, been waiting for an answer.

I lowered the screen resolution, tried different compatibility modes, forced 16-bit color, fiddled with settings in the NVIDIA control panel (I have a GTX 660 and the other guy had a Radeon so it's not NVIDIA/ATI specific). Tried forcing windowed mode with an application and some launch options but the game refused to cooperate. Mo'Slo won't work in Windows 8. If there are any other suggestions, I'm willing to give them a shot.

Sounds like you have done all the standard problem solvers. The only other thing I can think of that it might be is if you're using more than one Displays. If so try with only one.

That's unfortunately all I can think of for now. I'll look for some other things that might help and get back to you if I find something.

Oh and have you asked on GOGs General Discussion forum for help? Since the site is mostly about old games there are many people there that are very good at making old games run on new machines. They won't mind you asking about a game that isn't sold there.

I'm only using one display. One of the settings I tried in the NVIDIA control panel was disabling multiple displays just in case, but there was no effect. I'll make a post in the GOG forum.

Any progress?

GOG suggested using a VM. I won't have time to mess with that until probably next weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

Tried a Windows XP virtual machine using Virtualbox and Hyper-V. Tried a number of setups and reinstalls, including leaving integration out, but all you get is the splash screen, then a second of black before Kohan immediately crashes without an error code. I suspect the only way we'll get this working is dropping back to Windows 7 or dual boot. It's somewhat worth noting that I'm not going through Steam - I dug my old physical copy out cause I was really missing the game.

TimeGate creating a fix is a pretty large pipedream, and the community is so small that I doubt anyone is going to come around with a custom fix for it. Damn.

From experience I can mention that crossfire is incompatible and a custom profile will have to be made with it disabled to get rid of screen flicker

No crossfire here, it's an issue with the OS I believe. Same symptoms across multiple computers with only Windows 8 in common.

what ive put it down to, I believe the game works on Ubuntu from what I've read, can easly set it up on a 8gb flash drive :P

Where was it that you read that?
