Section 8: Prejudice

Section 8: Prejudice

Single-player campaign? Bots? Planetside 2?
I'm looking for shooters, but i have bought some of them on sales here on Steam that a even play, for one or two reasons, so i need to have some tips about this game, instead of just buying it cause it's cheap and waste more money.

  • First, Section 8 have a single-player mode? What is your lenght, and how you feel about it?

  • We can set up a multiplayer match just with bots on scene? AI is good enough?

  • For those who are playing Planetside 2, how you feel about Section 8 comparing both?

I try Ravaged and Primal Carnage, but both are just multiplayer and when the pop goes down you just don't play (and i don't really like them). Bought CS too, cause it's a classic and i just don't play this genre till some weeks ago. I try Tribes too, and i like it first, but i'm not playing it.

Not mentioning the awful bugs of Planetside 2, this game is the shooter that really catch me, maybe for the more complex/real physics, i don't know. But it is the type of shooter i'm enjoying. It's multiplayer only too, but it is not about closing matches, and pop is pretty good.

Also, if you have some shooters you love and you think i can like it, i want to hear about.

There is a single player mode which should last about 5 hours, it's solid, but not the games strength at all.

The selling point for this game is it's strong multiplayer, the most popular modes are conquest, which is your standard capture and hold bases mode, but with a twist where you can use the points you get in the game to buy upgrades(stationary turrets to defend bases, heavy controlable mech, bikes etc), and the losing team can launch suicide missions to try to catch up, these are pretty hard to explain, but works well.

The second big mode(there is 4 modes though) is swarm, this is basically a 1-4 player survival mode where you defend your base against incoming waves of enemies. It works very well, and is heavily based on teamwork, since you have to decide where to put your turrets, supply stations and who should cover which flank.

The bots are fantastic, I've honestly never seen bots that work this well in multiplayer games, and yes you can set up your own dedicated servers, but the game sadly uses GFWL(depends on how you see it).

It's definitely more polished than PS2, bugs are very rare. I think the gunplay, and how the vechicles control feels a little bit better in section 8, but I would be an ass not to tell you about the lack of players at the moment. All empty spots are covered up by bots, but there's usually only about 5 players in a conquest game, but usually more on the weekends. I do have a small hardcore group with 70 members for this game, and we usually host multiplayer events on the weekends, and you're free to attend if you end up buying the game.

I'd say it's a nice mesh of Halo, Planetside, and Battlefield, yet manages to feel like it's own thing. Usually I can point out an obvious reason as to why a multiplayer game didn't succeed, but I just can't with this game...

If you're a fan of Multiplayer FPS games in general, I think you'll enjoy this.

Also, if you decide to pick it up, I recommend getting the DLC's too, you'll get a total of 9 maps(instead of the 3 you start with) and they're all well designed, and the few servers that are left usually use them.

Let me know if this helped you with making your decision, and please do join our section 8: prejudice hardcore group if you buy the game :)

I agree with pretty much everything above. Short single-player, not bad, but definitely not the focus. I haven't played against the bots much, but they aren't bad as AI goes. I would definitely say it is closer to Battlefield than Planetside in that it isn't open-world, and while the whole shield/health thing is remeniscent of Halo, it is much more important to how you build your loadouts as there are a lot of different weapon/ammunition combinations that are more or less effective against shield or armor. Some of its interesting innovations are the dynamic combat missions that broaden the "take point A to drain the enemy tickets" mechanic. The spawning mechanic has you burn in from a flying transport, pretty much anywhere (watch out for AA), and if you aim really well you can even crush an enemy when you impact the ground (and I mean IMPACT). Plus over-drive ramming...I digress.

Yes it suffers from a small player-base, I really hope that it has a resurgence because I think it deserves it. What it needs to make that happen is up for debate as are the reasons for its current low population. There is only one way to solve the low population problem: people have to play, be they new recruits or seasoned veterans. If everyone is scared off by the current player count, it will never recover. The question is whether you are part of the solution or not.

Ultimately its your money, and this is just my two cents. Not gonna lie I'm part of the problem, but I have hope...and I haven't forgotten.

This is a game you will buy and regret not purchasing the 4-pack with DLCs. Honestly, this is the game I compare all other games to. I have puchased/tried MANY other games to find one that is as well polished and fun as this one. Planetside2, Tribes, Orion Dino Beatdown... they all fall short of this game.
My favorite part about Section 8 Prejudice is the ability to customize your loadout %100. You can have a primary weapon and a secondary weapon or 2 primary weapons. There are also so many accessory items to select from and use. There are mortars, tools, becons, grenades, and knifes. Each category of weapons and tools has many types to choose from. For example, in the knife category, there is the Serrated Knife, the Electro Knife, and the Siphon Knife. Last but not least, you are alloted a set number of points to use towards upgrades in ability strengths. There are more than 14 abilities points can be applied to. Stacking upgrade points in one category such as the Assassin Module will let you remain undetected longer and be able to kill enemies with one knife shot. The amount of customization is unbelievable and any other game you play afterwards will seem restrictive and stupid.
Also, this game doesn't make you pay for items. Everything is unlockable through playing. Only a few weapons are locked so there is already an array to choose from when you decide to jump in.
Players are very well balanced. New players can take down Level 100 veterans with a bit of effort. There is no 1 hit kill weapons except for the knife and overdrive.
Speaking of Overdrive, this feature is awesome. It allows you to run faster and enter third person view after pressing and holding Shift for 2 seconds. In this mode, reaching the other side of a map is very quick. Colliding into a player while running will damage or even kill them if you have enough Energized Weave modules stacked.
The final feature that deserves mentioning is deploying on the battlefield...from the sky. Unlike other FPSes that try to be realistic but then spawn players from thin air, S8P has a realistic method of deploying soldiers on the battlefield. You dive from a dropship 10,000 feet in the air. During the last 2.5 seconds of your fall, you perform a midair summersault and your gliders deploy. You can then steer, land on top of enemies or deployables and kill them. The entire fall lasts 10 seconds.
I have been playing S8P for a little over 2 years. Everything about the gameplay is amazing. The weapon mechanics are very polished and firing them is a joy. The bots are intelligent and pose a decent threat to players at any level. The 4 game modes will offer hundreds of hours of entertainment.
To sum it all up, S8P is the most realistic game I have ever played. There is not one bit of BS that isn't explained. They have solved the thorny problem that has plagued FPS makers for years: how to explain regenerative health? Well, there is a stream of nanobots that fixes your armor!
Buy this game, play it, love it.

Many thanks for the great explanations! :)
I'm convinced. I had paying more for shooters that i barelly play, and that game really seems to be at least well done.

For those who taste Planetside 2, please, give it some more time. :D
This game, despite the huge amount of bugs (i think it's alpha), is awesome, "real-like" guns, horizontal and vertical recoils, depending on the gun you're using, different bullet drop rates, a lot of customizations. I take some time to feel confortable with the game, and to realize that all upgrades can be purchased by certification points, instead of cash. Cash-only are just cosmetics.

After reading this I am very tempted to buy this game. I've been on the fence for a while about it, was just worried about lack of online play
Faintestidea 30 ABR 2013 a las 9:42
Never mind, my comp can't handle it as usual lol

I see you've played Metro 2033. If you could run that, this game shouldn't be a problem, but if you had problems running it, you may very well have problems running this too.

I play on an integrated gpu Intel HD3000 on my notebook, even Planetside 2. Low profiles, but it works ok for mostly games, even when publisher doesn't officially support that card.

A good way to know before buying is search on YouTube like "Dishonored gameplay hd3000". So you can see the game running on your GPU without buying it.

Also, you can avoid some graphics details outside game menu, with a software called 3D Analyser. You load a .BAT and software show you what kind of resources the game use, and you have a option to disable a lot of them.

I play it for a while and my first impression is almost exactly what i was expecting, based on the comments here. Yeah, really don't know why this game doesn't grab much more players, maybe weak marketing, maybe the GFWL plague. lol

It is simple, but complex too. I mean, it is relatively simple to play, but there are a lot of options. Graphics on low are ok, and no lag or something, but i just play campaign yet.

ABOUT MAP PACKS, can you please give some opinions about which are the best to buy?
I just use steam wallet, and the credits remaining let me pick up just one. I prolly will buy the other even out of sales, if i like multiplayer, but payment process doesn't give me the opportunity to put more credits in time.

But i want to pick one at least on sales.

This game seems to worth, even on full price.
One of the best additions to my game library. :)

Whichever DLC you end up buying, ignore the blitz pack.

Overdrive is alright, it gives you a "lava map" and a snow map to my knowledge. A snow map is already in the original game and the new one is the weakest map in the entire game IMO. the lava map looks very cool, and the design is pretty great, which applies for the swarm map too, but personally I prefer the other map pack(can't remember it's names). Mostly because I think the map design is good on both of those maps instead of just one in overdrive.
Ericz 1 MAY 2013 a las 21:48
Yes, i even think of Buying Blitz Pack :D
Is that some difference between them regarding number of servers/players? (i don't know yet how multiplayer is)
jacke 1 MAY 2013 a las 21:50
Not at all since the only populated servers left use all the maps, so you may very well be kicked between games when you play online if you don't have all the maps.

I bought the Frontier Colonies, but i'm playing just campaign, after finish, i'll play against bots to get some training before playing against others. :P

Just as a statement for those who talks about campaign, i'm enjoying a lot more than i expected, although it's too linear.

Glad i don't get noticed about GFWL, and the always-on ♥♥♥♥. Cause i wouldn't bought if i know before buying (just a personal conviction lol).

I'm pretty sure I wrote about it in my first post, but I agree with you, GFWL is a horrible DRM system. Even worse than Origin.
