Black Screen of Death

Hey there,

I just bought it. It played fine for the demo and the full version for at least 2-3 times and now when Im trying to start it, it crashes into a black screen smashing my whole computer.

I tried everything. Nothing works. No firewall is blocking or anything.
I dont have a log.txt file either.
So frustrating

Im using Windows 7 btw. And it just played fine.

What, your whole computer crashes? That makes me suspect a driver issue, do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card? Try running the game directly, rather than through Steam. Also try running it through command line, that might pick up more errors.

If the game was working then it isn't, then something must have changed on your computer. The only thing that Solar 2 changes is the save game, so maybe your save game got corrupted somehow. Search the Steam folder for 'solar_save_game' and delete it (good idea to save a copy to your My Documents first as a backup).

If that doesn't work, then I don't know. Did you change any settings or install any software that might conflict with it?

I'm afraid I don't know how to help you. If there was a log file or error report I'd at least know what the issue is, but silent crashes like this are almost impossible to diagnose. At least without a lot of work for us both. Especially since it was working, and now it suddenly isn't, that is an immensely confusing issue which I recall has only happened once before, and that was on Linux and only with the audio.

If you haven't already, delete the game, restart Steam, then redownload it. Delete your save game. Do everything here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1996170

try this.. open the properties of the solar2 file goto compatibility and check the 640x480 box and hit ok then try the game again its mainly a issue due to resolution
