Hobo Star achievement advice?
I'm having a devil of a time with this one.

I've tried to knock the life planets out and capture them, but it seems to take forever and the planets get completely overrun with enemy ships before they can afford any shields.

I've tried smashing the planets into the stars, but I lose tons of mass and the stars take no damage because of the shields.

I can't set up anything useful with God options beforehand.

I'm nearly at wit's end. What tricks worked for you? :P

Gah, nevermind. I finally did it.

I focused on just eliminating planets by knocking out the outer planets and absorbing them, and knocking the inner planets into the stars. I picked up 2 or 3 life planets and then, with dumb luck on my side, most of the enemy ships were somehow destroyed, and a stray solar system smashed into the target stars, taking out most of their shields. From there I simply waited until I had a bit of shield, then rammed the stars one by one 'til the job was done.

Hooray for 100% achievements. :)

Did you use a large or neutron star? Been at it for hours, and still no luck.. I almost made it a couple of times..
Pretty sure a large star has more total mass to lose than a neutron star, seeing as you go through the medium and small stages... a neutron star that loses its mass will simply explode. Good luck on future attempts, and know that this is probably the hardest that it gets!

I got some good results with a neutron star as well, as it is better at pulling other systems to collide.. but it's more hit and miss.. with a large star, I've had more success bashing the three stars.. but still, no luck at achieving it so far..

Also, I've completed all the missions.. but still no Dude, I Don't Suck achievement.. do I need to complete everything, or do you reckon it might be broken?
"Dude, I don't suck" needs the completion of all story missions AND challenges without cheating.

Oh, and I did the Hobo Star one by simply staying near other solar systems that were "bumping" the crap out of each other. 10 planets in less than a minute. Took some tries, but it was funny as hell.

I didn't complete that insanely hard achievement yet, but I'm sure that Large Stars are indeed *THE* best hint *ever*! I was trying with Neutron for like 2 hours, never got even close. And with only 3 tries using Large Star I was able to know down all planets all times. *Much* easier! Finishing off the system, however, is another story, but now at least the Achievent went from "Impossible" to "Very HArd". Thanks!
And after a couple hours trying, i finally did it! In 2:45! YESSSS!!! 100% Achievements! ;D

So yes, Large Star is the way to go. But not only that: the real trick is to make it chase you ASAP, and as fast as you can can, as encounters with other solar systems will damage it badly! Such crashes will do 80% of the job, you just give the killing blow.

My full strategy was:
- Begin mission as a Large Star, 2500+ mass
- Use good aim and *gently* knock its outermost planets *out*, so you capture them almost immediately. Either absorb or keep them.
- Ignore their ships, damage they do is minimal.
- Don't waste too much time on stealing/knocking. The goal is to force the stars to move, and fast. 2~3 planets is enough.
- Now run like hell, make it chase you, stay on front (faster but risky), or sideways. Make it go fast to maximize bumping into other stars systems.
- Collect any planets in the way. Keep 2 (to give you shields), absorb the others.
- Eventually it will crash badly, lose most planets and a star or two. Wait till your shields are decent and bump a star directly, or use yours planets (or theirs, if any) to weak them further.
- Let shields recharge a bit and bump again until the last star is dead.

Congratulations! Welcome to the 100% club, and enjoy being part of the elite <1% of players. :)
I beat the system with a neutron star. Use the gravity to speed up the system and then smash the planets. With luck it run into other systems. Try to get two life planets and when the system have no shields, smash into. 2:45 minutes

Wow, you did it the hard way... congrats!
Just got 100% myself yesterday, although my last achievements in order were Speed Run, Hobo Star, and Grind Star last. Holding onto planets and feeding them over 15 stars started to be a real hassle with gravity and camera! :zombieskull:

One additional tip is that you always have at least one hit with the shield, so you can smash into the enemy star even if you only have a sliver of shield and take no damage, but it will take full damage.

Do I have to restart the entire mission string from the first if I complete the second, but fail to meet the requirements for this achievement?
