Game not starting
Hi! I had Nexuiz since early 2013, while it wasn't removed from the store yet. I installed it and played it, but since no one was on the server, I uninstalled it. Now I wanted to play against bots for fun, but after downloading the game and installing it yesterday, when I launch a nexuiz Icon and window appears, but after a second they disappear and the game closes. If I try to verify integrity of game's cache it always changes me a little 1.1kb file, but nothing happens. Is this related to the fact that the game has been removed from the store? I remind you that I was able to play it 2 months ago and nothing changed since then, same hardware and software for me. Thanks for the help :)

Apparently it has to do with the fact that the game can't authenticate because it was taken down from the store. Try launching the game while in offline mode.

I tried, but it still doesn't work. I think the problem could be that when they removed it from the store they didn't upload a working version of the game, otherwise I can't explain why the game worked the first time I installed it and now it does not anymore. If anyone else can try to download the game starting by zero on their pc and tell me if it starts it could help too, so I could understand if the problem is related to my pc or Nexuiz itself. Btw thanks for the answer :)

Same problem here...

Did you download the game recently? After the game was removed? And if so, did it work previously?

The game worked perfectly before it was removed. I just installed it today... and I was looking for a fix on the Community Hub.

While we wait for other answers, I e-mailed the developers and hope they could do something :)

i have the same problem, with the normal nexuiz. my library says i have 2 other versions of nexuiz, the stupid mode and the beta. the beta and stupid mode works fine. the only problem is the normal version. and when i download a custom map in the workshop it doesn't show up in my map list. does anyone know how to fix that?

You can still start the main game. The trick is to block communication to the server. (E.g. by turning your firewall to maximum (block all) or turning off your router or removing your network cable etc.)

I would so love to see Illfonic brought up on criminal charges and face a civil class action lawsuit. Maybe then they would realize people are serious about not being screwed by developers, and serious about our money. It should be a criminal act to sell online games with expiration dates, without first informing the customer you only have a limited time to enjoy the product you bought.

Actually, gives me an idea. I am going to write my Congressman to see if he will enact a bill and maybe it will become law. Something that negates the BS EULA that scumbags like Illfonic hide behind. Maybe if we are empowered with the ability to hold them accountable, we can start getting a higher caliber of products released. At the very least a refund if the product is no longer usable as was advertised, for whatever reason.

That has nothing to do with Illfonic. The game was published by THQ, who have since gone under. The rights belong to THQ, and until the situation is resolved in court, Illfonic are powerless to do anything with the game until the rights belong to them. This is the reason we are unable to play the game online.

Hopefully when it is all sorted out the rights for Nexuiz will be granted to Illfonic and they will be able to finish the game and allow us to play online.

Why on earth would they ever be stupid enough to share the rights they didn't really have the rights to in the first place with a company on it's way down like THQ? The original Nexuiz was an OpenSource project that they didn't really have the rights to but they bought them from a guy and ran with it anyway, forcing the original developers to fork their own game. What's worse is us gamers are the ones who have to suffer for their poor judgement. This is the sort of legal nonsense Steam is supposed to prevent, not enable! This is just plain disgusting! Well there goes more money down the drain I'll never see again I guess! Copyright nonsense has screwed over the consumer again! Add another instance to the long and growing list of offenses this outdated idea has committed I suppose.
