There are two different Nexuizes =) Read on wikipedia about it. First there was opensource version called Nexuiz (now usually called "Nexuiz classic"), but then one of the founding developers selled rights on this game behind community's back. And this game is result (it uses different engine, but actually it's more or less the same). Frome that time other developers started a new project - Xonotic, wich is just a more up to date version of good old Nexuiz and has I might say a big community, not as big as QuakeLive tho. So go play Xonotic - it's awesome, it has some playerbase and it's free! And has a native Linux version ;-) Sorry for my English.

Yes. I am so glad that this game had a demo. I almost bought it without even looking at anything else just because I wanted to support the Nexuiz developers, and because launching nexuiz from the steam client seemed nice. I then played the demo and it felt very watered down (and very SLOW). Xonotic is definitely the way to go.
