It's dead man. I used to get that message but let's be honest like you said, high traffic? Yea SURE Nexuiz.

Pretty sure all the dedicated servers have been taken offline for good, so your only way to get into a match is if another users hosts one.

Weird, I thought Illfonic said the PC version wouldn't be affected by the closure of THQ (the Xbox 360 version was shut down as THQ hosted the servers for that one).

Illfonic claims to be moving to a new host provider. Its been a month since the announcement. Game and company are dead Im afraid.

Game might be dead atm but Illfonic seems to be alright, working on new stuff.
I don't know if anybody is trying to fix nexuiz though, or even attempted to. It's sad a I enjoyed multiplayer quite a bit and even helped beta-testing new maps and stuff.

Well I just reinstalled the game and it still seems to be an issue.

This brings up the question: Should steam still be selling this as an online game where no servers are available??

It's kinda weird, yeah, though there is LAN support still, so you can technically play it against other people online, but it requires some time investment in getting Hamachi or something similar set up. For such an online focused game, I'd kinda think they should take it down until the issues are resolved.

I've been trying to find any updates on what's happening with Nexuiz, but it's pretty hard to find anything. Illfonic and Nordic Games are pretty much silent, as far as I can tell Nordic Games did buy the rights for it, but they're not really interested, and the last stuff I can find is that Illfonic have tried to get the rights for the game back from them, so they can relaunch the game as a free to play title, but haven't been able to.
I wish any of them could tell us something about what's going on.

Freaking A. I bought this game to play the multiplayer and got no friends who play it.

So now I apparently threw some good bucks on a fire pit. Steam should take that ♥♥♥♥ out if no one can play it.

If you open up the steam servers window and select game as nexuiz you can see the list of multiplayer games.....of which there are none. But if you download the Nexuiz dedicater server from the tools menu, maybe you can play multiplayer games through the steam servers thingy.

I have not tried yet, just a thought

Meh, I can't be arsed, to be honest. I just uninstalled it. I hope Steam will take this out of the store. I'm really frustrated.

Oh, didn't know Nexuiz servers showed up there, I certainly wouldn't be able to host anything long term or with a large amount of players, but I'll look into if I could set up a test server just to see if it shows up or not.

I couldn't get a test server to show up in the steam browser for some reason... Am I doing something wrong?? :)

Sorry, to clarify >

I have started a dedicated server > VAC Secure, also have a server Steam ID but still does not show in the server list...

this game is really fun, it's a shame the servers are down, it should be turned into a f2p model to see if it brings new gamers to it.

you'll need to port forward for the server to show up under internet.
heres a lovely guide http://www.wikihow.com/Set-Up-Port-Forwarding-on-a-Router
i might give it a shot too and report back eventually

Well a little update for you. Port forwarding was already done, even tried setting up a DMZ for the computer hosting on my network. It is just showing as a LAN game.

I have tried setting a config file for the server to lauch as I run the dedicated server with a command set "sv_public" "1"

Which I have tried in a number of different combinations - The server does pick it up but says unknown command: Set - So it seems the command is wrong, suprisingly I got this from a Nexuiz wikki about server setup so it should work... Hmmm

Can anyone shed any light on this? Might be worth me starting a new topic in all honesty!
