Steam client freezes and crashes when launching the game

This is a first. Usually launching a game doesn't affect the Steam client. I was wondering if someone else has this problem.

When pressing the Play button, I can see a menu with 3 launch options (main game, Forgotten Prison DLC, editor). Launching any of them will make the Steam client freeze for a few minutes and eventually crash. I don't own any of the DLCs, so I thought it was odd seeing it as a launch option.

I tried validating and deleting/redownloading, but it's the same.

Steam had some issues earlier today, I'm wondering if this might be related.

I have occasionally had games freeze the client when launching if they have DLC at all, it's probably checking if you have the DLC or not would be my guess.

Someone else said they didn't have any problems running the game, so it's probably something on my end. I'll try to figure it out.

Ok, I figured it out. It had something to do with installscript.vdf that does first-time install stuff. After blanking the file and denying write permission, the game runs fine.
