I'm having the same issue, hit play and nothing...
I think it's cuz I'm using Win7 thougn but idk, looking for a solution as well.

i use windows 7 and have no problems.
This sounds like a driver related issue.

I would check to see if your C++ runtime and active X drivers are up to date. The reason i say this is becasue i recently moved my steam directory to a differing drive, this causes similar non-start up issues. USing steams re-install option i found my C++ runtime files where some how messed up. As in the C++ update re-installed them....whihc fixed the issues i had.

Psychic Kitty might be right. I would also check Windows update and make sure you have the latest service pack installed also just in case thier is a compatiblity issue. Another hitch will be the amount of ram you have. Even if you fix the compatablity issue the game tends to noticably run slow after about 45 minutes on systems with less than 6gigs of ram due to memory leakage.

Let us know what you tried to do to fix the issue. Report your attempted failures to us so we can better assist you in diagnosing the problem. Or what you did to fix the issue.

oh one more thing....some games do not like running on external drives like flash drives for example.....if you are trying to run games from that and get crashes that could be the issue.
It has something to do witht he way the flash drives and external ones commmunicate that causes the issue.
