Can you post some (links to) sreenshots so we can see exactly what you are looking at?
But if that's too much hastle, then I can probably tell you now what I would say anyway: Close FAF (might require end task through Task Manager). Uninstall FAF and completely remove FAF. Restart computer. (Install and) run Forged Alliance (it needs to be vanilla, unmodded). Create a profile in Forged Alliance. Close Forged Alliance. Download FAF. Install FAF. Run Forged Alliance, and check profile. Close Forged Alliance. Run FAF, log in. Wait for a length of time generously proportional to the slowness of your computer (at least 30 minutes) as the lobby updates to the current version (perhaps the progress bar is hidden somewhere?). Load up a single player game from the (campaign tab of the) lobby.
These instructions might not be entirely correct in what I have claimed to be necessary, but I like to be sure when I do technical things.
This sounds very arduous, I know. But fresh install is about all you can do when the exact cause of the problem is unknown.
