Solid FPS with some nice Open-world and RPG elements.
Don't expect too much from the story. Even though the whole post-apocalyptic universe this game is set in seems very authentic and well done, there could've been done so much more in order to make the story more compelling. There are a great amount of interesting characters, both enemies and allies, which add to the atmosphere.
The gunplay overall is not on the level of Killing Floor 2 for example but above average nontheless. The guns handle well, the sounds are realistic and shooting feels satisfying. Different types of ammunition help spice things up especially later on in the game.
Throughout the game, RAGE wants you to believe it's an open world shooter. Between quests, it does a relatively good job at it. During missions, however, there are a LOT of invisible walls which can get annoying at times. Most missions consist of going into a cave/dungeon/city/building and pick something up/deliver something etc. and then go back to the quest giver. The levels are generally linear but well designed. You don't have to run back the way you came which prevents the player from losing attention quickly. There are not a lot of areas that I felt like I want to get out of immediately.
If you're planning on playing RAGE on hard difficulty, I wouldn't bother. All they did was turn the enemies into bullet sponges. It doesn't necessarily make the game harder, but you just end up wasting a lot more ammo and it just doesn't feel right to see a bandit without any heavy armor take a couple dozen bullets before eventually dying.
Overall, I didn't feel like quitting the game at any point, the game kept me interested enough to play it for about 13 hours. If you're into games like Fallout or the Metro series this might just be something you should consider picking up.
