True Ending To E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy
So, there is this doomsday cult thing in real life called "Heaven's Gate" Founded by Marshall Applewhite, they believed that their souls were trapped in the human body and dying was the way to achieve a higher level of existence.

In 1997 24-26 of march, 39 members of this cult committed mass suicide by drinking cyanide. They were made to believe that behind the comet "Hale-Bopp" which that night passed by earth there was a spaceship that had come to take them to another realm. This all happened in France, E.Y.E is french too.

Now here is the intresting part, there is alot of referrences to Illuminati in the game, such as the name implies "E.Y.E", and the pyramid on the logo, and also the many eye and pyramid referrences we can see in the game, not to mention that the achievement "Hypnotic Gate" for getting the Hypnotic Gate ability is all red and black while all the other achievements remain red and yellow, or just the fact that there is an achievement named "Illuminati".

O.o

Now here is my theory, You wake up in the cave in the beginning of the game when the rest of your squad was killed, so were you, you just dont know about it yet, as you continously keep coming back to the dream sequence with the two gates its usually the night gate you enter. Even though your physical body was killed in the cave, your soul was freed, and still lives on through the game, meaning that the game is a dream. so night gate = sleep = dream.
HOWEVER, in the ending, maybe you haven't noticed but its the sun gate, not the night gate you enter. The true gate, the gate that will continously keep sending you back to the beginning of the game until you manage to find the fourth and true ending achieved by speaking to Circe, the ending with the floating island. Hence the name "Heaven's Gate".

That's really interesting.

My interpretation is that the character is being forced to reflect on all the terrible things he has done in his life. On the island I'm sure you noticed the seal with a symbol of a snake eating its tail. That symbol called an ouroboros which represents self-reference or cyclicality. If he breaks the seal, then he will continue his cycle of guilt, a sign of his unwillingness to take responsibility for his actions and then to move on.

But that's just my interpretation.

Yeah, i actually didnt notice that symbol but it sounds very probable.

Its too bad that EYE dude doesn't have anything to do on that floating island. He doesn't get any company whatsoever, he just found out from his wife that he killed her, and his only options left are to sit on the floating island doing jack or break the seal and get shot the ♥♥♥♥ up all over again for 10 more missions.

EYE dude has it rough.

This is pretty much how I've come to understand it. I saw the referances to the illuminati, art symbols, achievement and spell. I just couldn't place any of it. Nor did I think it had anything to to with the cult suicide pact in 97'. Interesting! I also find in a lot of cyberpunk themed games, books etc. the illuminati is referanced.

Shadowrun has a Shaman you can hire named Kiluminati. +1.

Ok, let's leave the Illuminati and such alone for a moment. What do we have: Circe, depicted by a model of a being that is described as an archetypal succubus, a sigil with a symbol of Ouroboros, the Coiled Snake, Minos Labyrinth, Floating Island, Eternal Cycle, Cybermancy, Beginning without end and End without beginning, Four faces of one character, Three gates, Cryptic phrases about Necrocybermancy, Mentor who we may or may not have killed.

What can we make out of that
1 Circe
* A variety of chess variants named Circe in which captured pieces are reborn on their starting positions
* In Greek mythology - a minor goddess of magic. "begin wikipasta" Some say she was exiled to the solitary island of Aeaea by her subjects and her father for ending the life of her husband, the prince of Colchis "End wikipasta".She was a character in Homer's Odyssey, where she turned a part of Odysseuss' crew into pigs. (after saving them he may or may not tapped that). "Wikipasta begin" There is a very different interpretation of the encounter with Circe in John Gower's long didactic poem Confessio Amantis (1380). Ulysses is depicted as deeper in sorcery and readier of tongue than Circe and through this means leaves her pregnant with Telegonus. Most of the account deals with the son's later quest for and accidental killing of his father, drawing the moral that only evil can come of the use of sorcery"Wikipasta end"
2 Ouroboros
* An endless Snake, that is devours itself, the beginning and ending of the world
* In psychology (by Jung) a symbol of pre-ego "Dawn" state of mind, read development before the mind if formed
* In Alchemy it symbolizes the immortality and infinity, as well as unity of the opposites
3 Minos Labyrinth - one more link to Greek mythology (I did not have time to search for similarities, sorry)
4 Floating Island
The island itself is floating in the formless, blank sky, where only object is the sun, and a couple of floating rocks, you can only die there never. If you psy-shock yourself you will simply respawn (with a simple white flash, no usual effects), if you carry grenades/rocket launcher there and blow yourself up, you will respawn etc etc. The only thing that changes there is the sun, and the shadows that it provides, so the island serves as a further link to Ouroboros, the Eternity and Unity of opposites.
5 Sigil of Ouroboros and The Eternal Cycle
In the middle of the island there is a symbol on a round stone tablet. On it there is Ouroboros. Below it is the only way off the island, the portal that drops you ONCE AGAIN in the beginning of the campaign. Which leads the the end turning to the beginning. When you finish the "Final Battle" with Rimanah you can enter the portal that drops you in the dream sequence. Before you stand three characters. Mysterious man, Rimanah and Mentor. One is the symbol of urge for power, of dominance, of strength, of self destructing desire. One is the symbol of benevolence, of forgiveness, of hope. One is the symbol of knowledge, the unknown, of end and new beginning.
6 Cybermancy
The word is in the name of the game, in the fluff, in the dialogues, everywhere. This is the Magic of this age, this is the symbol of power, of true knowledge.
7 Three gates
One is the gate of lies, that turns all the harm to us on someone else, we get it if we betray the ones who trust us.
Second is the gate of madness, the one that clouds the vision and stops the mind. We get it if we follow the path of mindless destruction, and in the end stand alone amidst corpses.
Third is the gate of death, that brings pure agony to us and death to the one that wronged us. We get it if we choose to follow the dead.
8 Necrocybermancy
Honestly, i didn't open the research, so i may miss some points. Necromancy - art of resurrection of the deceased, art to use them to your whim. Necrocybermancy then may or may not be a skill to make zombies out of people with implants. Higher levels may or may not include a skill of attaining truъ immortality via cyber. In a dialogue with Circe EYE dude mentions Necrocybersomething syndrome symptoms of which exactly match what is happening to him. Circe then ridicules The Dude for being so repetitive.
9 The Mentor
Matching the tendency our Mentor may or may not be dead... Before we kill him i mean. Go to the upper right console in the archives (the one with the recent history). The final sentence there may be paraphrased as: "Welp, you just shot your mentor with 4 .444 bullets in the head... Whatcha gonna do about it?".

SO
I ended up with a couple of theories on what the ending actually is
1. This is all a dream, we just had a fight with our mentor, the Culter/Juan squad and are now in a coma after winning and then succumbing to wounds/mental damage/cyber-damage.
2. This is a dream, we encountered some serious metastreumonic ♥♥♥♥ in that cave. It possessed our mentor and killed the squad (maybe it came from the wall that becomes the portal), we put the possessed down, succumbed to our wounds and are now in the hospital, after Dutch recovered us.
3. This is self-reflection. We went into a sefl-induced hack-sleep that caused us to counter different parts of our personality in a world that exists in our head. The whole game is built on the principles of different outcomes, every dialogue can turn the course of play, this diversity means that the personality of The Dude is made extremely unstable.(As in this case he represents the actual person, where Rimanah, Mentor and Mysterious (who may or may not be perceived as the Head Archivist from the temple) are just shards of his personality)
4. This is Fun. We have achieved true cyber-immortality, maybe in a form of a datafile, maybe in a form of a cyber-lich, maybe in a form of a wreak of a being (the Immortal King(AKA Skelly on the throne) way). This whole cycle is just an endless playground for us, and after eternity we have lost our mind, That is now no more that the island in the Sea Of the Formless light.
5. This is memory. Of a group of friends and comrades that went as far as linking the minds of each other together. Who went on different missions, each assisting another. One being on the spearhead of battle, one working behind-enemy-lines, one providing support and guidance to the first, and one coordinating the other three with the rest of the forces. First one had followed guidance of the fourth, and went as far as killing the other two, only to be betrayed in turn. The Cycle is the memory, not of one, but of four, the memories of four friends linked together and stored in the mind of a madman. And the scene after the "final battle" is just a thought about the one final escape that the mind of a former spearhead made from the endless cycle. And the labyrinth is an illusion, a glitch, there is no escape.

Damn, thats long! Ok here we go again.
1. In 1-3 To "Win" we go to circe, get on the island and Quit the game. This represents us ending the Cycle by exiting it into the real world and either trying to fix our wounds(1), eating a medicine-sandwich(2), deciding that we need a psychotherapist(3).
2 In 4 WE ALREADY WON. We come to the Cycle for fun, for escape from the greyness of the eternal life. When we get to the island and quit the game we go back on our business, when we return next time it just means we got bored again.
3. 5 demands explanation. The "Spearhead" is the EYE Dude, he is the fighter, the vanguard, the operative. The second guy is Chen, Chan... the Juan guy we kill as the last boss in the Purge mission in the Campaign. The third guy is the Mentor. The fourth is Rimanah. So, the plot and dialogues sometimes hint at The Dude being friends with Chen and at Chen, Dude, Mentor and Rimanah being an elite team of operatives. So what happens: They are really good friends, so, as religion-crazy cyborgs they decide to link their minds and memories together for sh*its and giggles and a possibility of having "false life" for the dead while at least one of them is alive. After that some time passes. Rimanah gets the colonel seat and now plans to wipe the EYE counsel and be the one and only leader, he sends Dude (who doesn't know anything) to liquidate some traitors/unfortunates that know something in a cave, Dude succeeds, but gets banged on the head badly. This disables the safety measures on the mind-link-thing, from know on instead of cloud-type storage on the moment of death all the memories of a dead mind-linked person will fall into Dude's head. Dude and Mentor (who suspects something about the coup) are then sent to get the needed information. While they are at it Chen (who doesn't know anything, but suspects that something is up) goes to Blow-the-City and Dispose-The-Marauders missions. After that Dude goes on Mars-doomclone+killerturrets mission because Rimanah wanted him out of the picture for some time. Rimanah then orders Chen to infiltrate the feds and use them to kill the council members, he convinces him by offering Chen the data Mentor and Dude found in New Eden, only edited slightly. All the while Mentor travels to his old teacher to seek advice on Rimanah issue. He then assembles everyone who has suspicions about Rimanah on Mars. Rimanah, having hacked into the link long time ago, sees an opportunity and sends Chan to kill Mentor, Chan is reluctant, but is convinced by the (faked) evidence of Mentor trying to hack Dude's brain. Dude is summoned by Mentor while going back from mission on mars. He comes to the meeting on Mentors call. Chen then kills/backstabs everyone in the room sans Dude, when killing/backstabing Mentor he mutters *phrase he says when you kill him on Purge*, that lingers in the back of his head until his death. Dude is then knocked out by the backlash of Mentor's memories flowing inside his head, Chan is convinced that it is a backlash of released mental control, so he leaves Dude to recuperate. Chen then comes back to the Temple and finds it on high alert, Rimanah thinking that Chen knows everything and orders a Purge of Juans. Dude then arrives mid-battle due to his recuperation, he is dizzy at the moment Mentor's memories clouding his mind, so he listens to Rimanah and decides to kill the traitors and deal with everything later on. When he kills Chen (because warrior>rogue in a strait out fight) he is nearly knocked out again, his mind beyond r*ped, his memory a pudding mixed with cola, mixed with broken dreams. Only thing he know for sure are those Shining Armor people shooting at him, and the voices in the back of his mind screaming that Rimanah is the traitor and wants to kill him. So he comes to the Temple, slaughters his way through Rinamah's closest guards, everyone else just stays out of his way, knowing that they stand no chance and then chokes the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the forgotten catacombs underneath the Temple. After that he goes completely batsh*t insane, sleeps/dreams/watchflies through the trial, pardon and veneration for uncovering a coup, and then he loses himself in the memories, each mission for him - a memory, a repetition, again, and again, and again... A mix of memories, his own, his friend, his mentor... only traitor stays out, for he had no brightness in his memory, nothing to back on, only corrupt and Forgotten Dreams of greatness...

Fingers ache... mussst... continue..... ty...py..ing
