I don't understand how saving works.
So, I played for 90 minutes yesterday. Got to that first area with your mentor mission, the first one. Decided i had had enough for now. I didn't see a save button or anything anywhere, so I assumed it must be auto-saved.

STart it up again today...I'm at the start again. Dream sequence. Save level and gear, but what the hell?

Why wouldn't I just start where I exited the game at the start of a new level? This is Source and yet I can't Save / Load on command? And there's no auto-save for progress, just your character?

So now I have to go talk to a bunch of NPC's again and terminals and such just to get back to where I was. HOW does saving work!

Yeah, but I figured I'd start at the beginning of the mission.

The issue is: I did not.

It's not an issue this is how the game works...

If you quit the game while in a mission you end up in the dream and after you enter the gate you back at the HQ and you have to take the mission again - the gate will not put you back at the start of the mission.

That is not true however for the monolith and mars mission. after you finish the monolith map you will end up on the mars map not back at the HQ. Plus the game saves your progress in the mars mission (based on the teleporst you unlock I think) so after you enter the dream gate you will be on mars not at the HQ.

Ofc you can "return" to the HQ at any time from the menu and the resume the main story back on mars where you left if you wish. This will not reste your progress in that mission.

I just lost my last two hours of progress because I got frustrated and bored repeating, repeating. Searching.

Back at the start of the first part of the mission. All that progress. Gone.

AWFUL Save system.

And I can't even progress! I just made it to eh Elevator again and it won't le me go through!

Geez quit complaning the save system is part of the game. It's not the first game in the world that saves your progres between missions. I never had any problem with it you can finish most missions quite fast 1-2h max -_-'

Losing up to 2 hours of progress is a terrible system. It's worth complaining about, even though nothing will be done.

Source Engine is one of my favorite Engines, and most games on it allow manual saving, a feature that all PC games used to have. I hate this new generation.

That's your opinion so don't make it sound like a fact.
And lol about the "feature that all PC games used to have". This game is quite old and the save system is a desing chocie. By calling this game new generation you just make a fool out your self.

"Old"

2011 is not "old" by any means.
Sati44 Oct 10, 2013 @ 9:59am
A 2 yr old game is not new generation -_-' but whatever

Lol...wow. Go on, defend bad design choice to the death. I'm done.
Sati44 Oct 10, 2013 @ 10:03am
Ok bb then go back to games that let you quick save every 10sec and hold you by had and tell you what you have to do so you don't get lost. We all know that all the old pc games where like that right?

The game saves in 3 ways:
1. After completing a mission
2. When you quit the game
3. Every 3 minutes

That's saving.

You always start at the beginning of the mission you were currently on. Also, you always start in the dream sequence before appearing at the point of your story progress.

I like the way this game saves. To many gamers use the save feature in other games to get through a level that is to hard. I agree with Mindjacker though, you do have to set aside time to play.. you can't just dive in play for 10 minutes then log out.. unless your farming for something.

YOU made YOURSELF lose two hours of progress, not the game

It uses a checkpoint based system, usually saving your mission progress at the start of the mission, or during important breaking points of the mission. It's best to be prepared to at least finish your current mission before quitting (which shouldn't be very hard, most missions are easily somewhat short).

You character progress is saved all of the time, which is the most important part of progress, moreso than the story.

I think it is a lazy design choice, the singleplayer isnt actually singleplayer, its like a local hosted server with you as the only player. They could of done it much better
