Dead Island is buggier than Watch Dogs, but people complain about Watch Dogs for being buggy while this is ok.
It's also basically the same game as Call of Juarez: The Cartel with melee and zombies (same devs, same basic gameplay mechanics, same "meh" engine), yet people complain about Call of Juarez while this is highly acclaimed.
Truth is, this game is a glitched mess. Constant crashes to desktop, chat bugs that make you get stuck forever until you restart, de-sync problems, some map glitches, repetitive gameplay and messed up mouse sensitivity. Just. Like. Call of Juarez. But at least CoJ's multiplayer ♥♥♥♥ing works and I've never encountered crashes and only one game-breaking bug *that is avoidable* (excluding de-sync problems when playing with 3 people).
Graphics are flat (even though a bit more polished than in Call of Juarez) with terribly low LoD, characters and plot are not even interesting to begin with.
Overall, this game can be enjoyable, it's like Borderlands where you do a lot of secondary quests and go around the map freely, but it's filled with problems and it heavily connects to that game... In fact, both games were released in the same year. What were they thinking? CoJ The Cartel could have simply been a stunning game overall and Dead Island a more polished and less boring experience, but they've worked on them simultaneously and rushed everything out, with no game having a unique personality.
Frankly I would rate this game something in between instead of a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" but I only have these two options.
Get Dying Light instead, it is made by the same team but it's much, much cooler and more polished.
