I have to say that, having only played it a short time so far, I am having a hard time with this one. I really WANT to like it, and quite honestly, it's fighting me. I bought it the other day at $19.99, and I sorta feel like I am getting my money's worth... and then I get slapped back to reality, and feel like this is still not quite a $20 product, let alone the full $30 asking price.

Let me give a run down:
Pros: This is the definitive version of DooM 3. Period. Having not played the Lost Missions yet, I can't speak for the quality of that product, but so far, the core game and RoE are pretty damned great. The graphical overhaul seems mainly to reside in the addition of native widescreen support (YEAH! No more .ini hacks!), as well as the addition of native 3D support, which does nothing for me, but may be worthwhile to those of you with 3D monitors or TVs. There are also some nice updated effects, like motion blur and anisotropic filtering, so we are getting a much cleaner, distortion-free experience on 16:9 and 16:10 monitors. THIS ALONE makes the game substantially better than the original releases. Steam Achievements are a pretty nice addition to, though they don't particularly add any depth to the game.

Cons: Ok, this is probably going to be largely subjective, but this IS my opinion. The Ultimate DooM and DooM II games are lousy. The inability to remap the keyboard within the games is, simply put, unforgivable in itself... but you add the horrendous default controls, and it only gets worse! WHY CAN'T I ALT-STRAFE??? For crying out loud, I want to play the classis Doom games with the classic control scheme! But then, to make matters even WORSE, the turn rate is broken. I don't know if anyone else has run into this problem, but the view seems to jump, slowly, in 10-15 degree increments when you try to turn. I haven't tried it with a gamepad to see if the issue is present there, but it happens with the mouse as well. Hey, id, if you're going to pack in Ultimate Doom and Doom II with Doom 3, and call it "the ultimate Doom collection", why don't you NOT break the classic games, and make them unplayable??? Also... how is this "the ultimate Doom Collection" WITHOUT Final Doom?? Moreoever, I would like to know if it is even possible to play custom PWADS with this version of the games? Not that it would matter much, because in their current state, they would be unplayable, but I would really love to fire up Aliens: TC some time. Guess I'll do that on GZDoom with the copies of these games I got in the id Super Pack. As to issues with Doom 3... with all of the effort into revamping the graphics, is there any reason why none of the environmental models have been touched? It's kinda odd to be looking at photorealistic faces in a game that has octagonal cans.

End Result: Depends on what you are looking for. So long as you really have NO interest in the classic Doom games, you will probably be happy. If you DO NOT ALREADY OWN Doom 3, you owe it to yourself to buy this. If you DO own it, but would like to experience it in native widescreen, with cleaner visuals, and have an interest in The Lost Missions, then you may want to check it out. As to the classic games, though... don't say I didn't warn you. If you want those, buy them individually, download them, and then play them with GZDoom to play them in a much nicer OpenGL engine. With playable controls!

Only gripe with 360 is the achievements, they're worth next to nothing in gamerscore and are quite taxing at that, with a large reliance on the already dead multiplayer. Another concern although this has nothing to do with BFG edition is that I finished it on Marine difficulty in 6 hours, an abysmal fact. It's still a great game though.

>>**DO NOT GET THE BFG EDITION ON PC**<<

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT

Getting the originals and modding them to accomidate for HD is better and saves you money!

Part of it is explained in Total Buscits steam sales box http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJiWs_iMm4I
He gives a synopsis of the game if its worth it(which its not, Doom 3 BFG is NOT)

But BFG edition is the Console Doom 3!

Console Doom 3 was cut down, was edited down, and shortened, it has less than half the levels than the original PC Doom 3

I played and completed all the Doom games before i knew what a track mouse was. Years later. I havent found a wad that did not allow customized everthing. Now that Doom 3 has been around a while. It will be nice to see what modwads whatever we call em now will let us do. Im not a programmer. But i've done some map building before. I was torn between Doom 3 and Doom 3 BFG edition for a while. Already made my choice for Doom 3 Unleaded seeing as how most mods seem to be more compatible from what info i gathered. I may pick up BFG edition at some point after i see more results from the community.
