A clastrophobic corridor shooter, but in the best of ways. Although not as fast paced as the original games or the now almost year-old reboot of the franchise, Doom 3 has its own rhythm and style of gameplay. The story is serviceable, but in all honesty pretty bland. The gist of it can be summed up with a few words, "There are demons, demons must be stopped, kill all the demons." The gameplay in this rendition of Doom is more slow paced and methodical, with a plathura of jumpscares throughout the length of its campaign. The original cast of weapons are still around, including the pistol, shotgun, super shotgun, plasma gun, flashlight, and of course, the BFG-9000. There is also a new edition to the roster, the soul cube. On a technical perspective, the game uses the id tech 4 engine, which in my humble opinion still looks decent even till this day. Although there are some noticeable dated parts to the overall presentation, such as low pol charcter models, some muddy textures, but really, you can't complain given a game of this age. There is also fantastic mod support as there are mods actively still being made for this game to this day. Overall if you liked the original Doom games, i'd say give this one a play through. It is different in it's look and feel, but still a solid game, if not a bit dated with some of mechanics today. The flashlight can only be held whilst holstering your firearm, for instance. But, that is indeed a minor annoyance in an otherwise great, if not dated and somewhat flawed, Doom game.
