One HELL of a ride. Even though the plot seems to be loosely based on the original Half-Life, the creators have made a game that holds its own even after 14 years. The only problem I had is with the lighting system. It was a novel concept then and FEAR did it to perfection, but it's not so well worked out here. Shooting in pitch black doesnt really seem to have a point. Also, the year is 2145 and the protagonist uses a flashlight like it's 1995, which doesnt make a lot of sense.
Man, remember the good old days when we thought DOOM 3 was a bad direction for shooters? This was years before the modern shooter craze took place, and boy, was that a train wreck. Yeah, it's 90% darkness and 10% audio logs, but at least there's some creativity on display, like the parts where you have to follow a single light source around. Buy it if you like a little action and a little horror together. Like that other guy said, it's the poor man's DOOM.
