How do you feel about Bethesda/id pulling Doom 3 from Steam after the BFG Edition?

I think it's kind of sleezy. It wasn't pulled on the day BFG Edition came out either. I think the original Doom 3 got a sales spike because people interested in the BFG Edition were hearing about all of the complaints coming from people who bought it and then discussing the original with a number of mods being a VASTLY superior experience. Then people starting buying the original Doom 3 to try out the game with the mods they had heard about and Bethesda/id said "Oh no you don't!" and pulled it from Steam.

I think their greed is honestly ridiculous here. You could say that it's smart business decision, but how do you think their customers and fans feel after that?

Anyways, what are your thoughts on this?

Yeah I was waiting to see the BFG release before deciding which version to get and was miffed to find the original AWOL. Simply bought it elsewhere in the end.

I'll bet that this move caused a lot of traffic to Doom 3 on torrent sites. They weren't happy with making money because they wanted even MORE money and now they're going to get zero money even when/if it ever comes back on Steam because people went to go pirate it instead.

Well it IS still available from other online shoppies (as a Steam activated product), although I did wind up paying a few quid more than the D3+ROE pack used to cost on Steam itself.

That's literally the only place I found and I guarantee you it won't be up there for long. What's more pathetic is that Bethesda still allows the Mac version of DOOM 3 to be sold everywhere else because there is no BFG Edition for Mac.

I should warn you that the link sells you a Steam code for DOOM 3. Who knows if that'll even work with Bethesda being so anal about DOOM 3 being sold.

I bought it from the UK version of that site and it activated fine. Runs far smoother on my (t)rusty old desktop than any new release could hope to -- it really could do with being in the Steam store, even if only as the low-spec option.

Why would they pull it? It was only like 10€ cheaper than BFG so they were still making nice money on it. How silly. I bought the game a while ago and its still in my inventory. I hope I can actually redeem in now.

I'm pretty pissed off to be honest. I've always wanted to play Doom 3 with the Sikkmod etc. I actually was going to buy the original the day after they removed it from the store. Weak. I'd still be willing to purchase the BFG edition if they released a pack with mod support (the only reason many ppl would buy this game in the first place) and reinstallment of all of the features they originally cut (e.g. muzzle flashes in the original lit up the environment, in BFG they don't)

I already owned Doom 3 and resurrection of Evil, so I have no issues, lololololol.
I'd actually like an option to trade in my Doom 3 and Expansion for a discount for the cost of the BFG edition since I have a 3D TV.
