So, will we ever see Steam achievements on the original Doom games?

The release of Doom 3 BFG edition was at most disappointing to some of those who expected a whole "new graphics, high-res everything" overhaul, and it seems that those who have previously bought the 'Doom' bundle while it was on sale now find themselves in possession of all Doom games, while lacking the achievements.
Would those who value achievements so greatly really have to pay the equivalent of an extra Doom 3 copy just to gain access to them? Will we see a result not unlike Half-Life 2, where owners of the retail copy had to wait a few years for achievements to be applied to their game?
