The original Doom, the Quake series, and Duke Nukem 3D were better than Doom 3 in my opinion.

Idk, the AI in doom 3 seemed really meh for me. The fact that all imps (or most of them) insisted on making a battle cry (along with a few other monsters) made it too easy to just walk up, stuff my shotgun down their throat, and blast their brains out with 1 shot. Infact just about everything I could kill in 1 shot this way (besides bigger stuff like archviles, hell knights, and maybe revenants...but plasma made revenants a joke anyway). It All just felt very un-challenging, and nightmare mode even wasn't all that bad as long as you rushed.

However Double doom (a mod) fixed most of this, imo, and made the game far more terrifying.

But yeah, NOT the best game ever by a long shot.

Commically enough, I found nightmare mode.... Which I play it in, a little easier in a modern computer. It may be that the "dedacaded this and hte dedecated that," computations are not the same in a modern video card... or even a modern processor as when they were originally written for the A.I.
I do feel however that's it's a great game ( I mean really , 'give it up,') and I probably be checking out the "New Release," when it goes on the crazy great sale.

Why mention the AI when it's the difficulty which isn't a match for you, even in Nightmare?

It's not you like or not the game, it's it is too easy for you, then it's obvious you can't have your fun.

For me Doom 3 is full of traps, there's constantly traps/ambushes, and the AI isn't a point.

All modern shooters tend evolved in using enemy AI closer to humans. Not only it made them play all the same but also removed many fun elements of shooters.

If really a shooter has smart AI enemies it means it will be constant 1v1 or players would be crushed in 1v2. That pure AI point if, for me, a false debate, it's a matter of gameplay.

At release Doom 3 more or less crashed my personal computer, or it was concurrent, ie the Drive was on the bad slope and tuning Doom 3 graphic config was generating many crashes and brutal restart of computer. So I stopped played Doom 3 because of computer death and I didn't replaced it before about one year then I had forgot Doom 3.

As there was negativity around the game I get influenced. But since a week or a bit more I'm replaying it and playing it as I didn't finished it at release, and it's a shock. Not only I didn't remember it was that great but it's just huge great fun.

For me Quake series is Multiplayer thing and not that great in single player. DNF first levels are amazing but on the whole game the gameplay get repetitive for me. Doom has always been my favorite shooter even more than Doom 2. But frankly now I'm playing Doom 3, I wonder or at least Doom 3 is rather close.

There's only two other shooters that compete for but both aren't game I have play since a very long time (unlike Quake, DNF, Doom 1&2 that I all replayed in part, and Doom fully one year ago) so it's quite questionable, it Po'ed but I played it on 3DO, and Marathon.

If I would make a top 10 of pure shooter that could be (it changes constantly):
1 - Doom
2 - Po'ed
3 - Marathon
4 - Doom 3 (with mod giving flashlight to all weapons)
5 - Serious Sam 3 BFE
6 - Clive Barker's Jericho (without the QTE)
7 - Prey
8 - Half Life 2
9 - Quake 2
10 - Duke Nukem Forever

But I removed those quite RPG like EYE Divine Cybermancy and System Shock 2.

About System Shock 2, Doom 3 is a very influenced by it, but where SS2 failed totally the thrill and is just medium shooter Doom 3 is great on both elements. But SS2 has for it the RPG elements and many elements like the camera, the hacking stuff, and some more, no stuff that Doom 3 has at all.

ps. you can even make the imps and stuff jump around on the ceiling like aliens and so much more only your imagination limit this game..

not really, there are tons of other better games. I dont understand why people praised this game. the graphics where great but thats it, the gameplay was awful and the story was pretty bad, so was the horror factor which consisted of jump scares. riddick is a far better game. this is just a shinny ♥♥♥♥

Personaly as the OP I apreciate your opinion (games can be like Art to like one Artist(s) over another is not insluting to a person who would value their ideal of great art as much as another persons). But (for humours sake) Riddick.. That's the game that came out (with the same engine I think maybe, meaning a lot (and I do mean a lot) of the same artist where involved in it.) about 4 years after ?

So this dude.. Just mentioned DNF? Let it rest. It sucks. Doom from the 90's, Quake, Duke 3D are way, way superior to this. Sometimes i can't take opinions seriously. Duke 3D, Doom II and Quake 1-3 are probably some of the best games of all time. Wolfenstein on top of these. THAT MUST BE SOME KIND OF FACT! :D

I am enjoying the game so far. I didn't think I would to begin with. It's sort of spooky in places and those swarming spiders are my worse nightmare. O_O

I enjoyed this game alot. I loved playing it without a flashlight mod.... it was great to choose between seeing and being helpless or shooting everything in the dark. I know it is unpractial to think of not having a light mounted to a gun in a space environment, but it was a game mechanic that I enjoyed all the same.

No this is true fact. Doom 3 strays away from what Doom really is. Doom is a shooting game. Not a damn horror game!
