Doom 3 loaded from the original cd
I have Doom 3 on the original cd bought legitimately from a store.
I was wondering if i could activate it on steam so i tried and found out the cd key is unsupported on steam. So I then went through and searched for Doom3 on the steam store and found it.

Why does steam sell Doom 3 but won't support the original cd key?

The answer is that there is a big difference between Id and VALVe. Neither VALVe nor Steam does has access to Id's key verification servers

ok, thanks... i just thought it was kinda bs and wanted to bring it up...
I mean i'm not gonna buy doom 3 again just to play via steam...

I went ahead and bought Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil when it was on a good Holiday Sale for $7.99 USD. It was worth it to me because that my old Doom 3 play disk was old and scratched, and the price was great instead of trying to contact Id and get a replacement disk for a game I bought eight years ago.

my disk works just fine so i'm not going to spend money that i don't currently have to get doom 3 for steam

Activating a key through steam, means games that you purchased that "Require" you to go through steam just to play them. I hear complaints that Fallout: New Vegas required you to go through steam in order to be activated.
