I know this is a really old thread, but Google lead me here because apparently no one bothered to explain that. Here's my problem though: I did this and the mods aren't showing up when I go to select them in-game.

Yes, you need to put the mod folder in the doom 3 folder. If the mod didn't come with a folder, make one and put everything included there ( namely the .pk4 files). If you can't see it listed then the mod and you installed it right, then the mod doesn't have a proper description. Create a file called 'description.txt' in the mod folder and put the name of the mod like 'teh mod 2.0' on the first line and save it. Doom 3 'should' parse that and hopefully list it now :)

Good luck.

Probably a stupid question, does this work with multiple mods in one folder? I have two mods in the folder, but it only works when I have the first mod in there and nothing else. Could it be some sort of incompatibility? Is there a separate process for installing texture packs? (which is technically what the other mod is, but it came as a .pk4 file)

It depends. There is always a chance a mod will conflict with another mod but not always. What mods are you trying to include together? I'm assuing the texture pack you are talking about is Wulfen's mod. His mod should blend in okay so long as it isn't conflicting with any material files the other mod(s) didn't modify.

The mod that actually worked was called Enhanced Models
Found here: http://doom3.filefront.com/file/Enhanced_Doom_3_models;89133

Yes, the texture pack was Wulfen's. A sort of unofficial update.

That update is for pipe textures and does not include Wulfen 2.0, so you still need to include it. Link for full mod is here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/wulfen-texture-pack/addons/wulfen-texture-pack-201

Have a folder like 'modded_doom' and put all this in there:

* enchangedmodels_pak006.pk4
* High-Rest_Pipes_inofficial_wulfen_2.0_update.pk4
* wulfen_texture_pack_2.0.pk4

Path should be like 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Doom 3\modded_doom'

Everything should work.

Oh, okay. That's probably why it didn't work then. I thought that was the latest version of the pack, but it wasn't the whole thing.

Do the mod packs you guys mention also work on/for RoE? Or are there seperate packs for that?

Well, I think it worked. A lot of the textures from the first area are still using the default textures. I don't know if that's just that the texture artist hadn't finished, or if it's another issue. There's also the problem that half the screens for the interfaces are now completely black. They still function, but you can't see what you're doing. Although, I think part of the problem was that the texture were apparently set to be compressed to 256x256 in the config file.

I don't know, but I can look into that.

Not everything from Wulfen stuck out for me but I noticed the mod was working for sure playing map mc_underground. Make sure you have a pure base ( no mods or modded files there ) other than saves, screenshots, configs etc. Also make sure you are running in ultra. Wulfen textures look to be all targa files. Start with a new config file if maybe you think it has bad settings.
