Re:My Review OF BFG Edition
When I played the original Doom 3, I was impressed; The graphics we're really good, the gameplay was solid, and the A.I. For the game was spot on. When I had heard ID Software we're re-releasing the game, I was curious to see how it would differ from the original. Second, if you have played the Original Doom 3, Don't buy this, seriously. This could have been better than it actually is. Reasons why I didn't care for this version are:

1. ID software, before the release we're saying this would have improved graphics, but if you have played the original and you have played this, The lighting is brighter. Doom 3 was meant to be a dark/scary game.

2. When I played the original game, I liked the idea of having to switch to you're gun to you're flashlight, just to make it through the dark levels of the game, but with this, you're flashlight is mounted on you're shoulder. Also, In the original release, you used you're right hand to use the pistol, and with this, it's no different. They should have made it to where you used both hands to use the pistol, and not just one.

3. While Their was an expansion pack released with the bfg edition(when the original game came out, you had to buy the expansion pack seperately) the graphics still look the same as they did back when the original game came out.

4. While ID was saying this was an upgraded version, why not then put some new monsters to fight, instead of the same ones that we're in the original release and ppl who played the original already know how to take them out.

All in all, I was really hoping for a different gaming experience with this, but sadly, it didn't happen. The original Doom 3 was great, and this is just a muddled over pc to console port.I'm sticking with the Original. Better luck next time ID.

Tested both original and exp. on Win 8.1. Perfect. Regarding the review.. yeah, i played (and loved) the original and the exp. back then and i just had to (re)buy them now that they're on sale.. crazy thing with that 3cds installation.. lol. anyway, the BFG is no improvement over the original and under some aspects it could be seen as a downgrade.

Don't know if you knew this, but if you have the original, and any mods to go along with it, if you upgrade to BFG, from what I have heard, your mods get deleted.

The mod thing would've been the dealbreaker for me if I had read the reviews first. Its unfortunate that theres few, if any, mods for the BFG edition. I like to add stuff after I've beaten the game at least once, to make it more challenging or fun. From what I've read, texture and sound mods can still be used for the BFG edition, but thats about it.

The flashlight thing doesn't really matter to me. I think it would be more interesting if the flashlight would die and stay dead though, and only recharge when the player either found another flashlight or batteries. It would make the player use it more sparingly. Or as an alternative, since the pistol uses one hand, have the pistol and the flashlight in the same weapon slot. Add a new weapon to replace the flashlight.

I did notice a difference in some graphics, which bothers me, but not enough to keep me from enjoying the game. I think the gameplay is fun still.

I wouldn't recommend the BFG edition simply because theres little to no mods for it, and there doesn't seem to be any in development compared to the original DOOM 3. If that doesn't bother the buyer though, then go for it.

Hey all;while I do appreciate all the comments on my review, please remember that this is regarding the BFG Edition, and Not the original that was released in 2004. Thanks.

① One of the biggest complaint about Doom 3 was that it's to dark. Id Software made it just bright enough to see what your doing. ② Some fans like switching between weapons and the flashlight. Doom 3 BFG adds a shoulder mounted flashlight like the popular duct tape mod. ③ Doom 3 BFG does use the same textures/graphics from the original Doom 3 however Doom 3 BFG uses a more optimal compression method for textures. (textures are not higher resolution) ④ The Upgrades. Doom 3 BFG is updated with improvements from ID TECH 5 aka RAGE engine . I can't believe that no one mentioned the improved sounds in Doom 3 BFG it sounds amazing and you don't need a dedicated sound card with EAX. Supports native resolution, controller support, 3d support, 60hz to 120hz on supported monitors, levels load quicker, auto saves, much better sound, includes Doom, Doom 2, and No Rest For The Living "originally only available on XBOX XBLA" all with controller support. Steam achievements. Doom 3 BFG isn't better then the original Doom 3 because it is the original Doom 3 with improvements "BFG EDITION" although it does feel kinda rushed. For that I put the blame on Bethesda because ID Software would have never released an unpolished game unless forced to by its parent company . Doom 3 BFG still supports mods as the code was released it's up to the mod community now can't blame ID Software for that. The game has some bugs Bethesda order all other ID Software projects Doom 3 BFG, RAGE 2, ect. to be suspended until Doom 4 ships. Looks like after ID Software sold everything went down hill. Doom 3 BFG EDITION is a great game.

I still say the original is the best. I really didn't like how BFG Looked(Yes, I did play it). No offense, you can say that BFG looks better than Non BFG, but really, judge for yourself:
