DOOM 3
Doom3 compared to similar cinematic horror games.
In Singularity you have the TMD, Crysis gave us a the nanosuit, and in Dead Space you have whatever they call their slow motion device. Nowadays in order for a single player story driven fps to be popular it seems there must be some fun quirky device that spices up gameplay. Doom 3 was released when cinematic FPS were not as popular as tournament style fps ex. Unreal tournament, battlefield etc. I am curious how the community thinks old school doom 3 stands up to the modern versions with their fancy gadgets. Do you think Doom 4 will have to implement something as fancy to grab players attention or will they be succesful with the tried and true "shoot the crap outta anything you see" style of gameplay? If you want to see a fancy gadget in doom 4, what kind would it be? Thanks for your time everyone!!!

Doom 3 had the soul cube so that was sort of a gimmick, and the expansion (not made by id) had a weapon very similar to Half Life 2's gravity gun.

But I think Doom 3 is a fantastic shooter that doesn't need any other gimmick. Doom 3's real innovation was the lighting engine and making the player switch between the flashlight and gun.
It sounds like Doom 4's feature is gratuitous Violence - not the worst idea for a Doom Sequel.
indeed, hehehehe. Gratuitous violence in always a welcomed feature to any game I play. My little unicorn slaughtering a field of sheep? why not!!!! Its the only reason I love watching the trailer for the game Flockers. Demodulated - do you think the doom 3 BFG version that did away with switching between flashlight and gun made it less enjoyable of a game? or was the simple shoot-em up factor redeeming enough?
