Borderlands GOTY

Borderlands won't open
I know this isn't because of any Steam problems, and I know it's because of my computer. I have Windows Vista, (It's crap, I know.) So that might be a problem.
Whenever I try to open the game, I get this message:

General protection fault!

Help, please?

Nope, I am running into the same issue. I have Windows 8 on the laptop that this is occuring on. My desktop computer (also running Windows 8) is running just fine.
I've upgraded my computer to a Windows 8.1 and the game works fine now. I forgot about this discussion.
try redownloading it that does not work an an virus scan. and then do an melware and a defragment. hope this helps
do you guys use nvidia graphic cards? i had the same problem. i fixed it by reinstalling de physx driver. after the reinstallation it worked...
Thanks for the thread and for your solution benefuexx. Reinstalling the nVidia Physx worked for me!
Thanks for the tips fellas.

I DON'T have an nVidia graphics card but still needed to remove and reinstall Physx. I'm pretty sure some game I installed after this one installed a version of Physx that is incompatible with Borderlands and an attempt to fix it with the current version of Physx from the nVidia site didn't work either. Reinstalling the version that came with Borderlands located in the install directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Borderlands\Prerequisites\PhysX_8.10.29_SystemSoftware.exe

fixed the issue for me.
This worked for me to. Which is causing me some concern because I had 9.xx installed and who knows what I broke downgrading like that. :(
I installed the current version from Nvidias website rather than the one in the Prereq folder and it fixed this problem for me.

how do i reinstall the nvidia physx
It's linked as NVIDIA PhysX System Software on Nvidia's website. The link I posted right above yours will take you there. Just download and install.

no it will run as usual its very nice thanks floydian!!
Yeah, I don't believe it will cause any issues with any other games. Glad I was able to help out, but I think the credit probably belongs to the earlier poster who said it was the Physx driver :) Not sure if I'd have figured it out on my own.
