Also, after playing through the game twice and levelling up to 69, you could take on Crawmerax and get a chance to get Pearlescents - which are far better than Pearls in Borderlands 2.
Oh, and the proper way of gaming through the DLCs are as follows: Dr. Ned (Jakobs Cove); Mad Moxxie (The Underdome); General Knoxx (T-Bone Junction); Robolution (Tartarus Station). You might have gone to one of the later DLCs and faced enemies way above your level.
Or grind for a while on PT2 it should not take long to get from 36 to 40-42 , then you can face 42 lvl enemies without problems. I recommend starting with Zombie DLC too, but also ignore Moxxi DLC, its not worth playing IMAO.
