DLC scaling question

I finished the game with a friend on level 36. We wanted to try DLC's but the enemies there are on level 42. Only the arena DLC is scaling. I read somewhere that the game scales after the second playthrough but we have no intention on playing it the second time. It was a good game but don't see the point of playing it from the beggining again. So I guess there is no way we can play the DLC's with enemies on our level so we could enjoy it? And who came up with this stupid idea that you have to play the game twice so you can play the DLC?

You don't have to play the game twice to play the DLC. It's just recommended to do so because you get better loot and all enemies are properly scaled to your level. If you had wanted to play the DLC's in your first playthrough, then you should have gone for them before killing the Destroyer. But at the same time, if you did every single mission and side-quest before taking on the Destroyer, then you would be at the appropriate levels to take on the DLCs afterwards, regardless of playthrough status.

Also, after playing through the game twice and levelling up to 69, you could take on Crawmerax and get a chance to get Pearlescents - which are far better than Pearls in Borderlands 2.

Oh, and the proper way of gaming through the DLCs are as follows: Dr. Ned (Jakobs Cove); Mad Moxxie (The Underdome); General Knoxx (T-Bone Junction); Robolution (Tartarus Station). You might have gone to one of the later DLCs and faced enemies way above your level.

You can still select Playthrough 1 when starting game, even if you have killed the destroyer. Then DLC enemies should be lower level.
Or grind for a while on PT2 it should not take long to get from 36 to 40-42 , then you can face 42 lvl enemies without problems. I recommend starting with Zombie DLC too, but also ignore Moxxi DLC, its not worth playing IMAO.
