Game crash upon loading a Save game
Hiho,
Some unusual bug:
The game starts nice and smooth, but when i wanna load a saved single player game, it just crashed with some random, uninformational error message.

Happens with DX9 and DX10/11.

Things done so far:
- checked game files
- cleaned Cache
- reinstalled from DVD
- reinstalled via download

Sys specs:
Win 7 ultimate
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 64 7750 BE
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5670
RAM: 6 GB (+ 12 GB reserved on HDD)

Anyone any Idea what the problem is?

I'm getting the same issues. Every time I load, I get some runtime error and the game crashes. It seems to me that it is a STEAM CLOUD issue as I've installed a brand new SSD and a new OS. I started Civ 5 just fine, started a game, saved it, and upon load I got the same error. Tried loading a game on another computer and yet it still crashes.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I reinstalled my OS on a brand new SSD and it still didn't fix the issue... :/ Glad to hear yours is working though.

you have to reinstall anything from steam.

Why would I have to reinstall anything if it's a BRAND NEW install of my operating system on a BRAND new hard drive no less?

Just a random thought... did you have any mods loaded when you started the game? Before loading a saved game make sure you set everything up exactly the same as it was when you started the game.

Nope, no mods. Nothing. I start from sratch. Fresh isntall, fresh SSD. Start a new game. Hit save. Then try to load it and instant crash.

I was playing on Kubuntu Raring Ringtail and got this issue. I thouht maybe I could save and load on Windows Vista. I thought maybe it was a wine issue. I swich to Vista, only to discovere it dosn't matter which OS you run it on! Since I like to play on large and huge maps, then I need to be able to save and load games. I hope they fix this soon.

Yah I'm getting the same issue, even saving to the Cloud crashes the game. For me it's definitely a cloud save game issue.

I also have a fresh OS install (Windows 7 64bit). I uninstalled and re-installed both Civ 5 and Steam/Civ5.

The cache is fine, tried different workarounds for Cloud Saves (including forcing a cloud synch error) but to no avail. Oh and turning off the cloud synch and going in offline mode did not work either. Neither did deleting the cloud saves outright (Steam just puts them back)

This has been my exact same issue. I event went so far as to do each step while reformating my computer in between, trying from different ISPs, etc. I STILL have yet to find a way to fix this and asking Steam for help just doesn't work. THey refuse to help or answer my issues at all.

I think it's caused by corrupted save files. If there's a damaged save, simply opening the load menu can crash the game. A bad save will either be in your save folder, or in the Steam Cloud. If it happens in offline mode, I would rule out the cloud. Try going to Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\ and moving everything in save folder to a backup location. Then load the game and see if the load menu will open. If it works, you know one of the saves was bad.

It can't be my computer. Why? B/c I've reinstalled my OS, used a new computer, have new hard drives in the systems to check that, etc. Yet every time I try to load a game, no matter what, it crashes. I'm so fed up with Steam as they will not respond.

Same problem here. Civ V is unplayable now. Crashes when I try to load a saved game every single time, dx9 or 10, makes no diff. What is causing this? Its totally destroyed the game for me.

I disabled all mods and now saved games load NP.

Never used a mod, but glad to see that you've found a fix for your problem. The only thing I think could work is if they deleted Civ 5 from my account and then put it back. Aside from that, NO clue.
