Windows 8 + Civ 5
Is anyone else experiencing issues with Civ 5 when using Windows 8? I have found that it will crash after playing a game with lots of turns in, even reloading the save game it will hang and crash.

Also playing online comes with network disconnect errors after a long game.

Does anyone else have any issues running Civ 5 on Windows 8?

I can load the game but the play is really slow, so much so that I can't play it. I've uninstalled both steam and civ 5 and reinstalled each but problem remains. There's got to be an answer as to how to get it to work in windows 8.

there seems to be a problem with IE9 and Stream. I am still on Windows 7 but downloaded IE9 and had all kinds of issues with Stream games crashing. Non Stream games still ok. I tried to removed IE9 but the games still kept crashing. I had to do a full system restore before I could get things working right

Assume you're referring to internet exlorer 9. If so, I do everything through Firefox if that changes anything.

I have the same problem with Windows 8 and Civ 5. For me it plays fine, but crashes randomly after playing only a few to several or more turns.

I too had a problem with many games that didn't work correctly on windows 8 so I rolled-back my pc to windows 7 and everything is allright now.

Guys what do you want? Win8 is a new OS with a lot of bugs and not stable, use win7...

I've got same thing with W8. It just crashes after random number of turns, that's it. With W7 everything were OK(((

I've been able to get it to run reliably decently if i choose DirectX 10 & 11 instead of the Windows 8 - Touch Enabled option when starting the game. Not sure if that helps anybody else.

Confirm what WolfDreamer said - Choosing DX10/11 instead of the windows 8 option prevents the CTD...which sucks cuz now I have to wait like 5 seconds for tooltips to appear :), and the UI is just a little worse in subtle but annoying ways.

When I run civ in Windows 8 I can start up a single player game and can create a city but I cannot move any of my units with mouse, therefore it is unplayable.

It is funny because in the windows 8 version you have an option of restarting the game in the menu screen. This is something that the others do not have

I can use the direct x version 10-11 or 9 and play, but no multiplayer

I can make a game in multi but friend cannot connect and gives him an error when he is connecting, my friend then makes a game and also I cannot connect to his. It is not a firewall issue for sure. I have played quite a few multi days and nights

HAS anybody heard of any fixes for multiplayer?

At least now I know I'm not the only one with this problem.
Just started a thread at Microsofts support forum too (i.e. answers.microsoft.com) about this problem.

same here played with a a group of 4 leaders was fine as long as i dont go anywhere in a hurry play anything bigger and as you expand and the other leaders expand its almost as if the games to big for windows 8 to handle then it will start a run of moves crashes and pretty much the work you put in is wasted so unless i'm happy with games on little maps i mightas well not play it. as for going back to windoes 7 if you have a PC pre loaded with windows 8 you dont have that choice. Steam needs to get something fixed foall the users of windows 8

Just some info on playing games with windows 8. If it is installed on an SSD drive, make sure to do a firmware update to it. It is not too technical, but its not just as easy as clicking a few buttons. There are tutorials on how to do that. Windows 8 does not work well with SSD drives with factory versions. Not sure if this will make the fix for civ but since I updated the SSD drive other games dont crash
